When you grab a snack off the shelf theĀ last thing you're thinking is that it's going to hurt you. Yet 6Ā out of every 10 Americans have at least one chronic disease, and The United States has one of the highest rates of cancer compared to other developed nations. While factors like obesity, and low activity levels, definitely play into this, there's no doubt that a lot of the foods that areĀ sold and consumed in America are not good for our health. Although we have more food abundance than almost any other country in the world and even though our stores are lined with a seemingly endless variety of colorful, flavorful, foods and snacks, the overall health of the average American man and woman has continued to decline. Coincidentally many foodsĀ that sit on our shelves here in America areĀ prohibited in other countries due to the use of ingredients deemed unsafe for human consumption. Recently RFK jr has shined a spotlight on the Food and Drug Administration and has vowed to crack down on foods and ingredients that he blames for much ofĀ the unhealthy state of Americans, including ultra-processed foods and food additives. So today I want to go over some foods, snacks, and ingredients that you may want to avoid or at least limit because they are already banned in many other countries.Ā
So first we haveĀ Swiss Rolls which contain certain ingredients that are banned in other countries but are in a ton of other American foods that I'm about to list off for you. Many of which you're probably eating because you just can't get away from these ingredients. I'm talking about synthetic food dies.Ā Little debbie swiss rolls are banned in countries like Austria and norway due toĀ their use of dyes, including Yellow #5, also known asĀ Tartrazine and Red #40Ā also known asĀ Allura Red. These dyes have been associated with hyperactivity in children and potential carcinogenic risks. European countriesĀ try to stay away from these syntheticĀ diesĀ and instead useĀ natural coloring agents. On the other hand in the US these additives are allowed while requiring a disclaimer for potential adverse effects. The part that makes this worse is that tartrazine or yellow #5 is used in many other products other than just Swiss rolls. Almost any snack or packaged product that has a bright yellow or orange tint uses yellow #5. This includes Doritos, Cheetos, cheddar potato chips, Cheez-Its, yellow-colored sodas, many candies like M&M's, and even macaroniĀ and cheese mix. (1)
These foods are obviously heavily processed so it may not be that surprising to find them on this list but oneĀ food group that you're probably not expecting on this list is U.S. Meats and Dairy Products. That's right other countries don't want products that come from our factory farming methods.Ā American meat and dairy products face bans in the EU and other countries due to the widespread use of growth hormones and antibiotics. Hormones such as rBGH are used in the U.S. to increase milk production in cows. However, in Europe, these hormones are banned due to concerns about their potential links to cancer and other serious health issues. Not only are these other countries fearful of chronic health risks but they are also worried about the overuse of antibiotics in livestock leading to antibiotic resistance. If other countries have banned U.S. meat and dairy imports it's definitely worth it to try to go for pasture-raised and grass-fed sources of meat and dairy which usually prominently display that they avoid the use of antibiotics and hormones right on the package.Ā
Next is Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew is one of Americaās most popular sodas. And while this green-looking soda might taste great, it contains bromine which is a chemical also used in flame retardants.Ā These chemicals reduce the flammability of materials, such as plastics, fabrics, and furniture. For example, brominated flame retardants also known as bfrs are added to electronics or household items to prevent fires from starting or spreading. While they serve an important safety purpose, chemicals like bromine have been linked to health risks such as hormonal disruptions, neurological issues, and potential damage to internal organs like the thyroid and liver. This is why Bromine is banned across Europe and Japan. Meanwhile, the FDAĀ permits it to be used as a food additive whileĀ setting specific limits. Although the amounts used in drinks like Mountain Dew are considered low, cumulative exposure over a long time is a big concern for many regulatory agencies outside of the fda. And bvo is used in many other foods and beverages…

Not only are groceries prices high, they are sh*t.
I agree!!
You gotta look for deals. I just got pork butt country style ribs, 3lbs for $5. That is a lot of meat. I bought a few packages and froze 2. I got a pork tenderloin for $6.I only needed one. I bought 2. I buy 8lbs bags of chicken breast, not 3lb bags. 4lb bags of tilapia, not single fillets. You gotta pay attention to the prices. Meat might be cheaper at one place but bread is more expensive, where another place might have more expensive meat but cheaper bread.
You have to be willing to go to more than one place, look up deals, plan ahead for meals, stock up when you can and even use coupons and discount cards. I used to do fast food all the time and had to start buying whole foods that I make myself to eat instead and I was very disappointed at first, but I am excited now.
I can make a new york strip with sweet potatoes and caramelized onions, along with a salad, for me and my son for $20. That seems like a lot…but that is how much it would cost for us to go to BK for a sloppy burger, soggy fries (when I ordered onion rings) and a watered down soda.
Stop eating it. Period.
I used to work in a fiberglass molding factory and they used titanium dioxide as part of the spray base for the fiberglass. It was used as pigment and strengthener.
why is the US so *******. all those unsafe chemicals have very safe alternative that are 100% safe cost the same or less and test the same!
Eat real food, less than 3 ingredients in anything pre packed
Anything sugary is a No No .. thanks for the info.. š
Rfk isnāt going to do anything. But make his pockets fatter lol
If a group of people poisoned the water supply, they’d be deemed terrorists, but if another group of people paid off politicians to do the same thing to the food supply, it’d just be seen as part of doing business.
Would love to see a deeper dive about food additives and especially how they contribute to lower testosterone in men. As a fitness channel, yes, diet DOES make the biggest difference but even if trying to make those changes, the additives in food also help sabotage what trying to make better eating choices would achieve.
And people here in the US keep saying that this is the best country in the world š maybe it is part of the poisoning side effect š
So donāt eat anything with bright or neon colors
anyone who thinks pop tarts are a good breakfast dont understand how bad a plate of carbs with sugar pilled ontop of it is
Never do the DEW!
Great video to expand my list of what should i avoid
Thanks for bringing attention to these. I don’t actually eat any of those things, mostly out of avoiding sugar or trans fats, but good to know about the dyes and other additives as well.
Because fda can be bought
If other countries can get these things in healthier versions, the law should say that WE here in the US have wide access to them also… If people want to eat the crappy version fine. But we should have access to them here also, in ways that don’t cost $20 for a pop tart…
Just eat whole foods which will eliminate a lot of these issues. Then only you’ll need to worry about then are the quality and brands of meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs you’re having.
