Hi Dr B. I have managed to lose 4 st through healthy eating (Slimming World) since Feb 20 which is great but I still have a way to go. I notice that though I’m getting a bit fabby all over, my tummy fat isn’t budging at all so I’ll be incorporating more eggs and almonds into my meals. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the information.

  • Douglas Lett says:

Fasting is good for you, but what I find interesting my late father who was born in 1922 use to show me old photographs of large groups of people that was taken from about 1880 to about 1945, guess what, no overweight people, he said they ate all kinds of home made pies, ice cream, pastries of all kind. He said the reason they wasn’t over weight was they did hard manual labor all day long. Of course no fast food and no soda helped. And no modern flight or fight stress, which cut down on cortisol. Pastries was all homemade even the ice cream was hand cranked. They also drank lots of water. He said as a small boy diabetes was almost unheard of. A lot of weight gain is caused by processed foods, fast food and soda and stress I believe ! Lastly all bread was home made, no store bought. God only knows what modern food is doing to us ! !

In Europe there are many skinny people, they walk not drive to work or shopping

    • MtnGrl585 says:

I was born in the late 1950’s and if one looks at my elementary school photos of the 1960’s there were virtually no fat children. In a class you might have 1 or 2 chubby kids out of a class of 30, today it is nearly 50%. Dessert was not a nightly thing, my mom made cake and cookies, but these happened on the weekend, so we we would have sweets 1 or 2 days a week. Also, when kids drank coca cola they were in the small 6oz bottles and had cane sugar, no high fructose cane sugar. At my elementary school, we had a cafeteria where hot lunches were served and everyone regardless of income was served. Parents that could afford paid monthly and ones that couldn’t were paid for by the schools.
There were no vending machines allowed at school with crap in them either. Besides lunch that was provided to students who could not afford the lunch dues, there was break with milk and a graham crackers too. No one went hungry back then.

    • LuLu Pro says:

@MtnGrl585 good times, Jean😻 surely, technologies and other advances are great, but “there’s something wrong” nowadays. Or, more likely, there’s something wrong with me re current times?🤷🏼‍♀️

    • Marie Grace says:

Dr. Gillaspy, I’m definitely that person that is fearful of eating healthy fats I’ve always thought that eat fat, get fat. However I noticed over the past year when I implement salmon or Avocado my weight loss skyrocketed in a positive direction so apparently of you eat healthy fat in moderation you do lose weight. But now I am in a plateau, and I am at a complete loss for how to get out of it. I use to be able to do a fasted workout and it would kick me right out of my plateau but not anymore, my body refuses to let me get past 190. I’ve tried increasing protein and lowering carbs and the only thing I got was a severe case of the hangry! Lol and my energy wasn’t too great. …. what to do?! (Oh and BTW I found I am allergic to dairy, and pork.) Looking forward to your response!

    • Kelly B says:

Salmon, avocado, hard boiled eggs, raw almonds, organic psyllium husk , mct coconut oil stirred into coffee

    • SJD57 says:

      What about Sardines?

    • SJD57 says:

@Nothing2SeeHere You know what’s REALLY good for you?…………..Fish.

  • Maargen Bx says:

Wow. I had a diabetes scare a few months ago, did tons of research, and developed a diet for myself. I had scrambled eggs for breakfast, a huge salad for lunch/dinner, almonds as a snack. My dinner salad consisted of different combinations of leafy greens, salmon, sardines, avocados, chia seeds, roasted garlic, onions, chicken, blue berries, turmeric, dressed with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. I also drank a lot of water, with psyllium husk in one glass a day. My blood sugar went down dramatically, and I lost 22 lbs in 10 weeks.

The only thing mentioned here that I didn’t implement was the MCT oil – I was skeptical of that but will implement in the future. On the one hand I feel if I had found this video it would have saved me a lot of research, but I’m also glad to have my self developed process confirmed – my own doctor gave me no advice at all other than suggesting I take Metformin, which I refused.

    • A&M Beach Photography says:

Very proud to hear that good job hero❤️ but you only lost 22 pounds in 10 weeks on that kind of diet? I would have assumed more what was your exercise like?

    • Maargen Bx says:

@A&M Beach Photography The only exercise I did during this period is walking the dog for 2-3 hours a day, about an hour in the morning and two hours in the evening. But since this has been a constant for the past five years I don’t know that this affected my weight loss.

    • Sayusayme🦋 says:

Fantastic, said no to drugs too

    • It's me, Laura says:

My doctor just wanted to throw drugs my way she also told me not to worry about losing weight as I wouldn’t want to be too skinny! I was 25 pounds over recommended weight for my height and age! When I asked her about my A1C being 5.5 she said not to worry that I was still within the guidelines! I am done with doctors! Can’t find any good ones anymore who will give a thorough exam like the old time doctors did in exam room. She always wants to send me off for expensive tests that show “nothing” is wrong.
Kudos to you for taking care of yourself and validating that you are on the right track.

  • Cari SHAW says:

I went grocery shopping today and got healthy stuff today because I’m working on losing weight. One of the things I got was some hard boiled eggs that I can eat, along with some veggies as a snack. Then I saw this video and felt great about getting the eggs. They are inexpensive and a quick snack, I’m hoping they will help me lose the weight

    • Annette Johnson says:

Why buy hard boiled eggs? Cheaper to boil them yourself.

    • AngelWings says:

@Annette Johnson. Less gross to boil your own 😂. There’s probably a reason why they don’t want to mess with boiling eggs. But Anytime I see boiled eggs in a market I get kind of grossed out. 😂

  • Alison Hamm says:

Thank you. I’m very interested in learning about the low-carb, no-sugar way of eating for weight loss and good health. I am currently 2 weeks into this way of eating and have lost 7 lbs. Feeling great now but last week, not so much. Adding more fats was helpful.

    • Gloria Mary Haywood says:

Keep doing Low Carb and High Healthy fats! Also like this video says, be sure and add high quality proteins to your daily meals! A great way to enhance weight loss and just your health in general, is to start doing intermittent fasting!😉
Try it, and I’ll bet you love it and how easy it is and all the amazing Benefits!!!😎

    • Melanie Schrader says:

You may have been and probably were suffering from sugar detox that first week. Your body needs time to adjust.

  • Catherine Barnett says:

All the info is great and so many supportive comments. I’m going to turn to this community when I’m about to give up. I’m a stress eater, and love fast food, (I know, i know) otherwise I can manage on my own. Thanks for all the great info.

  • CJ Miller says:

Hi Becky, thank you for your encouragement. I am definitely a sugar addict. I’m 5 foot five and weighed 162 pounds. 8 years ago, I cut out sugar completely, no gum, no mints, nothing. I did intermediate fasting with two meals a day and after nine months had lost 40 pounds I’ve done pretty well for the past eight years but in the past year and a half I’ve gained about 5 pounds, so I’m back on cutting off sugar I know this is a major problem with weight and people not being able to lose it, I have firsthand experience.😊
