The Best Breakfast for Fat Loss (Hint-Low Carb Is Best)

Do I need to eat carbs for breakfast? Is protein the best? What about saturated fats? Deciding what to eat for breakfast is confusing, especially when your goal is to lose weight.

In this video, we take a look at three common breakfast options:
*A bagel and cream cheese
*Yogurt and fruit
*Bacon and eggs

One of these options keeps your body in a state of fat burning, while the other two encourage your body to make fat. Together we'll evaluate each breakfast to determine which one is best for fat loss.

In the video, you'll learn:
*How to choose slow-digesting foods that keep hunger away until lunch.
*The worst food to eat for breakfast
* The "healthy breakfast food" that doesn't deserve its title
*Why eating more for breakfast is not a good strategy for holding off hunger
*The best way to eat yogurt
*The truth about saturated fats

  • MaulMeister 50 says:

I love your stories! Like you I used to have my regular bowl of Cheerios and two pieces of toast thinking that would get me through my morning classes during my high school years in the early 80s! Now I love my bacon and eggs anytime of the day (during my feeding window!;)) Thank you for your wonderful information…it definitely works for me!

  • Kathy S. says:

You are so thorough and that is very helpful. Those that truly want change don’t seek just answers, they seek knowledge and understanding, logic. Knowledge is power, you give us that. I appreciate every one of your videos and feel so grateful to have found your channel. Thank you so much for what you do.

  • Manny says:

Whether I had dinner or not the night before, I always woke up feeling full. Been like this for as long as I could remember. Because of it I rarely had breakfast. Didn’t know that I was doing IF already before it became popular. I grew up in the 70’s, so of course, I was worried that someday I would get stomach ulcer, or digestion issue because of the bad publicity of not having breakfast almost every day. Fast forward to today. I’m 54 years old now and I don’t remember having a stomach problem or digestion issue.

  • Keith Robinson says:

Thank you for this calm, concise and factual presentation. Wouldn’t normally watch anything like this but I’ve listened, taken it in and am presently acting upon your advice – with beneficial results, even after a few days. Keith 71+1/4 x

I’ve just found your channel! I love how your videos are not too long, but very informative. Struggling with eating less carbs, especially bread and potatoes … I’m Irish 😆 What I’ve listened to so far has inspired me – going to try the (easy) intermittent fasting. Love your voice too! 💚☘️

You just got a new subscriber. I have type 2 diabetes & I am working so hard to try to get healthy, including working out every day & changing my diet. I’m not very knowledgeable on either but doing the best I can. I so appreciate your well thought out videos & teachings. Ive been at it for going on two weeks now & 4 pounds down. Not much but better than I was.

  • Silver Mont says:

In my opinion if you want to loose weight watch what you eat , YOU ARE WHAT YOU Eat. Don’t skip breakfast , your eggs bacon whatever .. but don’t eat dinner late 5 pm is good time for eating dinner – also do the 20% of exercises the body need so get the energy body needs too! You are what you eat at the end of the day !

  • LSOH weld & fab says:

My 11 year old daughter has sworn off of cereal this year before school and every morning has eggs and her test scores have more than doubled this year I attribute a lot of that to her diet.

    • Dr. Becky Gillaspy says:

      Wow! Good for her!

    • Claptrap says:

Is it possible that she is getting more nutrients? I find most commercial serial in UK and Finland disgustingly sweet and their sugar content is way lower than US varieties… Perhaps her improved test scores are more about quitting sugar: it destroys vitamins and minerals.

A tsp of organic honey during cold season might be ok because it has so many bacterial and viral fighting qualities. When my son burned his arm badly, my brother put his hand into a bucket of honey after initial cold water, which my son licked off afterwards: to the doctor’s surprise, my son has no mark. Whenever someone in his family or at work place / school gets a first sign of cold, they drink honey water. Never hot: heat destroys enzymes. (My brother is a bee farmer so he knows a lot about bees and honey.) Like alcohol, honey is a wonderful in medicine cupboard but it doesn’t belong on the table. It is against the law to add anything to honey Ann’s still call it that, but my understanding is that in US you have to read the ingredients to make sure it’s 100%

    • Vanessa Eden says:

Najma Begum I beg to disagree, shredded wheat is delicious and no added sugar.

    • Rob Westley says:

@Vanessa Eden Sandra Westley but it has been beaten and shredded and it’s not in its raw state, probably not as much as flour but the packet will give you the carbohydrates

    • Brenda S says:

@Vanessa Eden shredded wheat cereal is still highly processed and has lost most of its nutrients. In addition, eating grains on a low-carb diet (ketogenics) is not encouraged.

  • Laura Jane Sherman says:

Love how easy you explain the process of how insulin works and what it does to us. You have given the explanation I have needed to understand healthy eating!

  • Carol G. says:

Thanks for explaining important things in a way I can understand. I subscribed recently and look forward to learning from you. I like healthy food but sort of afraid to cut out sugar as it tastes so good. The eating right to not be hungry, have better energy, lose weight and regulate blood sugar is exciting. Years ago I would find that after 10 days of no desserts, but not a low carb diet, I would no longer crave that sugar.

  • Laurie Ball says:

Your videos are easy to understand and follow . I’m finally able to make dietary changes Thank you for helping me start this journey. Keep sending us knowledge !!!

  • Beverly Baker says:

Dr Becky so happy I found you. I’ve been trying to do Keto since 05/17. Weigh daily, started in at 183.3lbs and this morn, 06/11/20, weighed 181.6. I’m wondering if I’m insulin resistant or just impatient. I plan to search your programs for advice and help. Thanks BB

  • Mad says:

I just recently found a yogurt at my store that is purely cultured milk without any sugar added and I was SO GLAD, because I used to make my own yogurt with coconut cream and it got to be pretty expensive and somewhat time consuming.

  • selador11 says:

Another one well done, young lady. One thing: As an insulin dependent diabetic, keeping close watch on the effect of different foods, on my hour to hour BG numbers… I learned years ago that if I eat fat in my food, there is nowhere near the same spike in BG, as if I ate a low-fat meal. Even one that was mostly protein. I discovered that the fat slows down the metabolism of the glucose and gives my body more of a chance to just urinate the excess sugars out.

  • Cameron Brunet says:

I’m glad that you’re explaining how this all works rather than saying things like “avoid all sugar or all refined carbs.”
