WALKING is great, but it’s NOT ENOUGH for Women over 50

If you’re WALKING regularly, that’s all the exercise you need, right? (I’ve already told you the answer to this question right there in the title of this video!)

We’re tackling this important health topic today, and I’m sharing the personal story of my grandmother and how her exercise choices had a direct impact on the quality of her life as she aged.

If you want to maximize your own HEALTH and FITNESS for years to come in, walking can absolutely be part of the equation. But you’ll also want THIS in your fitness toolbox.

You have single-handedly transformed my bad attitude toward exercise. Thank you!

  • Erica Martin says:

Great reminders. I love walking, but I also love strength training and everything it’s done for me. And I’m confident that as I get close to 50 and beyond, I won’t have as many broken bones from falls (or as many falls, period) because of your workouts. Thanks for everything you do!

  • Tina G. says:

Pahla B Fitness you have changed my life. Always dreaded exercise and now I LOVE doing your videos. Osteoporosis runs on my mom’s side, and all the ladies became more and more hunched over as they aged. Hoping I can change that! This latest video is so informative and really hits home. I’m sharing with all the wonderful women in MY life! xo

  • Irma Gonzalez says:

  • The Bra Doctor says:

Good morning! I am an internal medicine physician. You explained this very well. In a way that is clear and INVITING!! Sharing your grand mother’s story is so impactful. It is hard to get adults to embrace “exercise” in general. Add lifting weights and ohmygolly!! I will point them to this video/channel!

  • J. Flaner says:

This video brought tears to my eyes. I’m 52 and fit but I’ve been trying my hardest to lose my expanding belly. It hurts my ego now that I have to work even harder to look great in my clothes. I just have to accept that my body is changing and now I have to fight harder to maintain my standard of beauty and fitness. The reason that I am a bit tearful is because I remember the pain and agony that my maternal elders experienced in their later years. I walked 7 miles in two hours this morning so lost in the sun and wind that God allowed me to experience today. When I walk I walk to enjoy myself and strengthen my body, and I also walk for those who are no longer here or who are unable to walk. I’m going to get back in the gym and get a personal trainer to help me with strength training. Thank you and bless you. Thank you also for sharing your lovely grandmother with all of us.

  • Marcy Anderson says:

New subscriber!!🙌🏾🙌🏼 I am 64 and I go to the gym 6 days per week, one hour on the treadmill, 45 minutes doing weight and strengthen the core!! Before I started exercising I use to get out the bed like a hunched back woman, knee hurt and shoulder also. I started taking my health seriously going on 4 yrs now and I feel amazing. I no longer have the pain in my knee or shoulder anymore. I tell folk that exercise is the oil your muscle needs, just like the oil in your cars engine. If you don’t have the oil in either one, you engine and your muscles will seize up. Let keep moving baby boomers!!💃🏾💃🏾💃💃

  • Anna Akosua says:

I absolutely love walking! My favorite way to move my body – combined with time out in nature, natural day light, and stress relieving benefits: perfect ☺️. I’m also eagerly waiting on my rebounder (mini-trampoline). That’s great for balance, building muscles and your bones.

  • Denise says:

I just turned 61 this year and I have fought my weight for about 40 years. Last year along with being stuck at home like most people, I managed to gain 10 pounds so now I am about 25 pounds overweight. Also, I went from exercising daily, ie: bike riding, walking etc. to sitting around most of the time. Fast forward to this year, I can’t get rid of any weight and my legs feel like someone put big weights on my thighs. Ugh! Doc says I just need to get moving again so I am working on it but I find it way more difficult with arthritis and this extra weight.

    • Paul Gentile says:

honestly you just need to get out there and move Denise…also if you’re stuck at home you shouldn’t have gained a pound because home is where it starts.. move, groove.. all exercises good just as long as you do it consistently ..that’s the secret

    • Aurelio Martinez says:

My wife gain about 50 pounds in a year we walk three or four day a week for about one hour and she doesn’t loose any pound this began with menopause she’s 58 now we don’t know what to try hormones don’t know

    • Elle Noir says:

@Aurelio Martinez I can relate to the both of you. I have gained weight and have OA now. Love in the Midwest and winter was brutal. I am doing PT but losing weight is hard. Up and down

    • Dolli Melaine says:

I started to swim a few months ago but my muscles had no strength and I hurt my leg/hip. So no walking for a few months or swimming because I was so tired I couldn’t get to the pool..I blew up like a balloon in my middle (not where I ever held weight but over 60…ugh) I couldn’t walk because it hurt so bad…and was beyond weak. Finally I found a small gym a block from my flat and am going 3 times a week. The weights are super easy…lightest weight…10 x’s of 3…Well, even after the first session I could feel some strength. Now after two weeks it is truly remarkable how much stronger I am both physically and mentally. Even when I am tired from lack of sleep I can still go sit and do the light weight training and feel better afterward. I don’t sleep alot so this is amazing to be able to do this no matter what. I am still on the lightest weight and I already look better as well. I never would have done this before but I was so weak and fat and tired. Now I feel like I can live again this is truly a life changer.

  • Elizabeth Kowols says:

One of the things that helps is actually….belly dance! Low-impact, good for hips, wrists, spine, core…arms & legs, of course. Any body type can do this. Any age, too!

  • Judy Mckee says:

3 years ago, I was cycling too, I felt pain in my back and overall lethargic and stiff. I started walking, stretching, balancing , go to the gym for 1 hour and miraculously , no pain, very tone and back to feel like in my thirties ( 64 years old ). I encouraged you good people to do it, it works.

  • Exquisite Caribbean Queen says:

I want to share something. In the Iskands and Africa, its not so at all. My dad died at 98 , no bone loss, no muscle flabber. My Aunt same thing. Two granduncles 101 and 103 respectively still walk in Jamaica to Church. its the Western diet, its the mediation, its the bad food, its the constant driving around. TV watching, bad mental health. And stress. And to even prove I am correct. Once we started to adapt Western way of life. It now has begun to change, diseases that never existed back now, now is showing up. After age 65, I am returning home yo my father’s land. Eating from the soil and proper sunlight and non toxic foods. My granduncles, pure muscle. No fat and flab.

  • Mel Lovett says:

I’m 54 , NEVER had a belly even after 3 children , but now, the menopause belly struggle is real. I’ve changed my eating and started overall taking better care of myself. Slowly seeing changes.

Thank you so much for making this channel. My whole life I was a gym rat but once I hit the menopause years it became more and more difficult to workout. I love working out but it became too painful. Thank you so much Paula, I feel alive again and I have the rest of my life to look forward to!
