related to ‘nutrient deficiency’ is this – if a vegan gets sick (mild to serious), people generally blame it on the diet! (if an omnivore gets sick, most folks won’t question the role of their diet in their illness…which, imho, is actually more likely to cause chronic health issues).

    • @jeahjung8460 says:

Hospitals are full of meat eaters

    • @ScarecrOmega says:

Hospitals are overcrowded everywhere and it’s almost all meat eaters as patients. I have yet to get anything other than a mild cold from 7 years being vegan.

    • @moonlightequilibrium says:

@ScarecrOmega it’s definitely helped by a balanced diet. My girlfriend is vegan like me but she eats a lot worse and gets a lot more sick, whereas I always end up brushing it off like nothing happened. That being said, meat eaters are a lot less likely to eat a balanced diet lol

    • @slayerofdiablo says:

Can confirm. I really haven’t been sick on a whole food plant based diet since I made the change 8 years ago.

    • @jay.rsingh2530 says:

@@ScarecrOmegaI agree that plant based diet is healthier but a big problem is overconsumption of processed foods as well which can be vegan too (chips, sweets, etc).

  • @kwilsonnc says:

100% agree. Ty for spreading the info kindly.

  • @brahmasatyamjagatmithya says:

No one would assume I’m vegan by the way I look. I’ve always been a very large man and although I have lost weight in the last 5 – 6 years since going vegan, it was only the excess pounds that were shed and I’m still as “big and strong” looking as I always was. I definitely feel stronger than I did when I was eating animal products and processed foods.

I also liked that you talked about the reaction some people have in a situation like a social gathering when alcohol is being freely (excessively) consumed and they find out you’re not a drinker. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink in over 20 years and not because I had an issue with it, just that I never enjoyed how it made me feel and how it negatively affects the lives of others. I have had so many encounters with people who love to create some kind of conflict over the fact that I choose to live a sober lifestyle because, as I would agree with you, it might force them to evaluate their own behavior and why it is they enjoy getting drunk in the first place.

    • @Simnettnutrition says:

Thanks for sharing some of your thoughts & experiences. I appreciate it!

    • @martinkevin4827 says:

I’m vegan and like yourself i don’t drink any alcohol ( apart from the fact most alcohol is not vegan ) , being drunk is not my way and when people find out i’m vegan , don’t smoke , and don’t drink alcohol they think i’m some f…cked up weirdo , but who care’s , that’s their problem not mine .

  • @darlenem9725 says:

You nailed this! Your explanations were so thorough and thoughtful. I always seem to loose access to my brain when someone hits me with one of these myths. I need to save this for future reference!

  • @ilikeoptter says:

10 out of ten ain’t bad. Bravo! and Happy New Year! I’m so proud to be a vegan. I love your channel. You and Crystal always inspire me in so many ways.

    • @ThatVeganTeacherYouTube says:

Simnett is better than God. He’s saving animals from incredible suffering while God is doing fuckall. Glad he’s finally including ethics in his videos!

  • @michaels5705 says:

My motivation for a plant based, whole food, low fat and salt eating pattern was not a moral one, but a health one. I’m a diabetic and by eating whole food, plant based thus avoiding all foods that are of or products of animals and also avoiding highly processed food, I have reduced my insulin resistance to the point that my insulin use has dropped from being problematically high, to being occasional. I can go days without insulin and not have my blood glucose be any different from a non-diabetic because of plant based eating. Thanks Derek, for the time and energy it takes to make and share such a clip. And thanks for all your support to be successful on a plant based diet.

    • @marileepeterson2907 says:

Same here. My husband had a “widow Maker” heart attack in Sept of 2022. Thankfully he did not make me a widow, but it caused us to reevaluate how we ate. WFPB just makes sense.

    • @anabolicamaranth7140 says:

Corroborated by Seven Day Adventist study where vegans had far lower diabetes risk even when adjusting for BMI.

    • @cyndij8312 says:

One of my cousins is T2 diabetic. I’ve tried mentioning the benefits of a plant-based diet and he’s not interested at all. He considers his diabetes managed by medication so is not interested in exploring another way. Kudos to you for being open-minded to find another way.

  • @Destinedmind says:

Whole Foods (beans, black rice, vegetables, etc…) gives me so much energy and strength. I build muscle way easier. I didn’t feel well when I used to eat poultry and/or meat. I’ve been thru this process so many times and w/experience vegan or so called nutritarian really is healing to my body.

  • @Vitalighty says:

Hey Derek! Been watching you for 7 years and honestly this is one of my favorite videos you’ve ever done. Praying you get back to making content more often because I watch every single video!!

  • @mandym8781 says:

    🎉🎉🎉 700K!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Excellent video, Derek! I hope people considering veganism see it and feel good about their decision 👍

  • @parveenbandan7539 says:

Do you ever hear such a ridiculous argument that it’s hard to even take seriously? There was 1 person who kept on asking me, “What about the pain vegetables feel when you cut/cook them?”. ❤ to you & Crystal, Derek.

  • @tracyhuckaby5876 says:

Great information. I have been vegan since 2015. My blood work shows I’m not deficient in anything. However, my husband, who still eats meat, is on prescription B12 and vitamin D.

  • @teeb8631 says:

All great points. Thanks for just being real and hitting all the silly myths.

  • @funwithfungi7621 says:

Thanks Derek for answering so calmly to any of these accusations.
Fun fact, when I look through my bank transactions last year (thats when I went fully vegan/wfpb) it says that I did more trips to the grocery store than the year before BUT I paid 500 dollars less in total! And that with rising grocery prices and inflation everywhere.. so no, eating vegan is definitely not more expensive (for me).

  • @sarahdee374 says:

#2- I never state I’m vegan unless asked, or it comes up holistically, for instance where new friends might want to go to eat, or what I might be asked to bring to a potluck, etc.

#4 I was vegetarian for about 40 years before going vegan about 8 years ago. I never missed meat. Sometimes dairy but there are many great subs. I’ll never go back.

  • @PlantBasedPrimary says:

Excellent work, Derek! Thank you for this video! This is my sixth year vegan and it’s great to have a nice, simple video to share with friends, family, and haters when they question my lifestyle. 🙏🌱✨

  • @JPageRocks says:

Hey Derek, one thing I thought you should have pointed out with regard to doing your own cooking is you can put together very delicious vegan meals in a short amount of time. What puts people off about doing their own cooking is the time. I’m a subscriber because you have SO MANY videos (with Crystal as the official timer) showing meals, prep to finish, being done in 10 to 15 minutes. That’s what sold me on the change. I’M LAZY and hate to “cook” but I’ve seen enough of your vids to know I don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen just to get something to eat. Nice video btw!

  • @PBandJ_Naivi says:

Well said Derek! One of the biggest excuses is that vegan/plant based diet it’s very expensive but I agree that if you make your own healthy vegan food is not that expensive.

  • @erikabourgeois8162 says:

    I really appreciate your opinion.
I’ve been vegan for 10 years now and believe it or not, sometimes people close to me will make a comment trowing the diet under the bus and it makes me so paranoid… long story short! Your video came out at the right time and made me feel a whole lot better 😂

  • @MLV79 says:

Bravissimo Derek! You nailed every point and I’m grateful for all of your work. You are a great teacher!

  • @edieshockpaw says:

Happy New Year Derek! Thank you for all the work you put into your videos. I found your channel early in my vegan journey 2 years ago. You’ve helped me so much with meal ideas, and especially your positivity over Covid. I’m just starting on your meal prep videos and using some of them this week–looking to get back to the gym. Keep up the great work.
