Most of us have changed our diets at one time or another. Over the past years, the ketogenic diet has risen in popularity because it works for fat loss, produces energy-rich ketones, and offers many enjoyable and easy-to-prepare food choices. But a keto diet cuts out some fun foods, which leads many people to ask, “Can I ever go back to eating carbs?” This video explores when it is right and when it is not right to step back from your keto diet.

Wonderful as always Dr Becky, I’ve been keto for 10 months, as a way of healing early onset liver disease, I’ve lost over 50lbs, unfortunately I am also coming off long term antidepressants (Mirtazapine) and pain meds (Pregablin/Lyrica) so I’m far from feeling great
Weight loss, healthy appetite and losing years of inflammatory issues are a definite plus for me

This was so helpful and clear. Thank you

Here’s What I know..back when Atkins was first popular..I did eat that way for 3 years and lost a bunch of weight…Then We started adding back carbs ..Somethings were still low carb..But Slowly it creeps up on you and You have gained back All the weight…plus ➕
    Here I am again…

    • @junknapper says:

Did the same way on Atkins, after the introductory weeks one can ease into a few carbs and there is no such thing as “ease into a few carbs”.

  • @gregralph616 says:

I’m low carb for the rest of my days & perfectly happy to be. It’s took a while, but I prefer my low carb choices. If they grew me a new pancreas & told me to go to town on my old diet I wouldn’t. The idea of a green leafy salad & tinned sardines makes me drool in anticipation.
You only really need to re-educate your taste buds.
Anyone for a lovely bowl of pitted olives & cubed feta?😋

Hi, I do Healthy Keto OMAD Only Carbs I eat is quarter cup of blueberries in my kefir. I sure enjoy my coffe in a morning and shot of neat bourbon in a evening. Thanks

The easiest place to say no is at the grocery store…remember that. Once you get the bad food home you will NOT be able to say no.

Great information well explained! Thank you Dr Becky

As always , great info 👍

When i introduce carbs back into my diet, I have to weigh myself every day to never allow myself more than a 2 pound gain. If I gain more than 2 pounds I stop all carbs until I am back to my desired weight.

  • @adriennedunne1748 says:

An ounze of prevention is easier than a pound of cure. Stay off the carbs. It’s just not worth it. If you binge on carbs, say on a holiday, jump into fasting for a few days afterwards, the cravings will be worse, but that’s the price we pay for eating carbs. Thank you, Dr. Becky. Very useful as always 😊

Thank you, always wondered about this while I’m in weight loss mode…and seem to be in somewhat of a stall but I’m feeling so good!

Thanks for all the good reminders .

After years of struggling to lose weight, I found long-term success with intermittent fasting (nothing to eat after my evening meal until lunchtime the following day), and crucially by cutting out sugar (all forms of desserts, cookies, cakes, candies and sweet sauces). I still eat bread, but always with butter to slow blood sugar release. I have lost my taste for sweet things, much preferring savoury. My Body Mass Index (BMI) is now 21.7 (well inside the normal weight zone for my height) and my waistline is back to where it was 40 years ago and has remained firmly in check for two years. I look and feel younger and my energy levels are the best they have been for decades. Having built up a wardrobe of quality clothes suited to my trim frame, I have every incentive to keep things that way!

  • @SUGPIAQBARBIE says:

I can eat carbs again, but very controlled. Stomach aches, reflux and arthritis were the reasons I gave up many carbs and the reasons I stay away from most. When eating low carb I do not wake up hungry. With increased carbs I wake up super hungry. We all have to learn our limits.

  • @d.wilbur5164 says:

I lost the majority of the weight I needed to lose doing a very regimented keto diet, then organically moving to carnivore. Keto for 3 years, then carnivore for 3 years. I lost the weight and maintained. I started having gut issues after being carnivore for 3 years so moved slowly back to keto, all the while maintaining my weight. For the last year, I’ve been adding back carbs, but only as whole food, nothing processed. My gut issues are resolved finally! My calories are back to where my metabolism needs them to be. I’m the healthiest I’ve been (I’m 74). I eat only whole foods. I’ll never again eat birthday cake or any crap for that matter. I skipped cake at my son’s wedding so that speaks volumes. In addition to what would look like keto, I eat potatoes, oats soaked overnight in yogurt, usually two fruits a day, cashews, sometimes honey. Life is sweet, pun intended!

  • @ginahamari7168 says:

15 months in I consider myself more lowcarb now than keto. I have just started adding some carbs back in. I like the idea of one a day.

  • @Helen-nv8el says:

That was very helpful. Thank you. I’m F 82 and at my ideal weight after Low carb then Keto. I do need to be super careful or my binge eating gets triggered and I’m off down the slppery slope. The big problem is that at my age food is one of the biggest pleasures left in my life. I so miss coffee and cake with my friends
