The TAME Trial: Targeting Aging with Metformin
Some people without diabetes have started taking metformin in a bid to live longer, but do the risks outweigh the benefits? If you have diabetes, metformin can make things better, but if you don’t, the drug may make things worse.
This is the final video in my AMPK anti-aging pathway series. If you missed any, see:
• Naturally Boosting AMPK with Caloric Restriction for Life Extension ( )
• Naturally Boosting AMPK with Exercise for Life Extension ( )
• Does Metformin Work as a Life-Extension Drug? ( )

AMPK is one of the anti-aging pathways I highlight in my longevity book, How Not to Age ( ), available in print, e-book, and audio. (All proceeds I receive from the book are donated directly to charity.)

Thank you! 😊
It will be interesting to see how the metformin stories continues to unfold with the TAME trial. In the meantime, go for the simple and side-effect free choice of lifestyle interventions!
I’m all about lifestyle strategies and natural remedies so honestly I don’t buy this PANACEA 😅
Any thoughts on Berberine?
I just want the truth to be told ❤.
I’d like to see studies on low-dosed naltrexone. It’s usually for alcohol/ substance addiction, however in low-dosages is anti-neuroinflammatory. I recovered from severe ME/ CFS with it, and many others from other chronic illnesses report similar anecdotes.
I almost took metformin. Good thing I watched this video.
@@Andrew-qg3ni I was prescribed it for weight loss. I’m trying 16:8 fasting first, been hesitant to take it.
The problem with prescription drugs (here in Quebec) is that it is almost impossible to consult a doctor to get a presciption or blood test or any other problem. The public health system has crashed and the private health system has been outlawed.
Metformin almost killed me!
Fascinating! Thank you so much <3
I’m not anti-pharm by any means. Medications certainly have their place but it makes no sense to me why you wouldn’t adopt the lifestyle changes as well (preferable before if possible), see how your health is and then medicate as necessary.
@@dianeladico1769 I think everyone knows they *should* adopt lifestyle changes but it takes a lot more effort to continuously do so than to remember to take a pill or two per day. People are usually looking for what is easiest. 😂
You need to make T-shirts, “But you don’t know until you… Put it to the test”. I’d definitely buy one of those, Greger approved…
Just eat plants and exercise.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on nootropics? Also what is the science and risk factors behind them? (Asking for a friend 👍🏼)
I love this channel!
I thought the video was about anti-aging, not about contacting diabetes.
