Aqui no Brasil chamamos isto, de castanha 🌰 do pará , ela na árvore 🌳 esta dentro de um uma bola super dura
I used to eat these in that famous nut mix in the blue can. My ears would get crazy itchy deep inside so I tested each nut in the mix separately until I realized it was the Brazil nuts that caused the itching. My sister freaked out and told me to never eat them again because I could die. I never eat them anymore. They taste good though.
That sounds like an allergy, if it is, it is also an allergen that can be sexually transmitted (in other words you can have an allergic reaction if you partner has eaten Brazil nuts and you two have intercourse) it’s one of the weirdest allergens that way.
@@anufoalan Thanks! I never thought about that. 🫤
Wow and to think how I used to eat many at a time as a youngster- I loved them!
As a vegan and I follow pick up limes she recommends one a day. That is all I have. To be honest it is one of my favourite nuts…lol I am able to have one thankfully.
Same. I eat one every morning as a vegan selenium supp.
I had like a dozen a day for two weeks before i realized that was team too much 😂 lived to tell the tale
I eat 2 a day for my hashimotos
I eat a few a day once in a while, bc I do like them, but I absolutely agree that they should come with a warning, this is simply dangerous.
Huberman says 2-3 are okay so I’ve been eating them and feel pretty good 😊
1 is the max recommended for women, trust me. That man is kind of a charlatan. I have visited multiple nutritionists and they all say to have just 1
@@lolalola2592 I’m 6ft tall and have thyroid issues, I think 2 are okay for me🥲
I did the one a day for selenium but i just like them a lot and having them home and restricting me to one a day makes me crave them so badly that i just dont by them anymore. I now take a supplement with selenium and zinc
I love Brazil nuts…so waxy so good
i agree that brazil nuts can’t be eaten in quantity…but a couple a day for all the health benefits they do provide is worth it…so no…do t keep them
locked away just understand the amount that is ok to eat!
I think that’s why she suggested keeping them in the cabinet so that they’re not readily available, and then you don’t eat as many at one time. If she wanted them locked up and never touched, I feel like she would have said they belong in the trash 😂 But that was just my interpretation! Maybe I’m wrong, lol
@@picklockanddropit your right somehow i heard keep them
locked up
They had a Dr House episode about this one.
Spoiler :
The CIA mixed up the country Bolivia and Bresil, where the patient was. And obviously in brazialian don’t call brazilian chestnuts “brazilan chestnut”, in contrary to Bolivia. The symptoms of Dr House’s patient were identical to a selenium “overdose” and so he figured out the mistake. In country because of the mix up in language and so the ” deaseas” of his patient
That episode was so good, when I went to Bolivia I was like: Dr. House warned me about you….but they call them almonds in Bolivia so it’s even more confusing.
A warning should be a MUST! I eat 1 small one a day for selenium as a vegan! But I personally couldn’t imagine eating 7, they’re also like super high in calories😅 they’re also radioactive, because they store a lot of it in their “body” from the soil.
Quite a few foods are radioactive in this way I think. We are probably not designed as humans to be able to forage many to eat at a time but nowadays we can buy them in large quantities and end up snacking too much! Food is such a minefield I feel like even when we try to be healthy we can go so easily wrong!!!
@@happyme9010 true!
I guess this explains why even the “fancy” mixed nut containers, with all the nut varieties, only has like 3 or 4 Brazil nuts mixed in…to keep people from essentially OD’ing
Omg no clue about this, it’s hard to even find Brazilian Nuts in the grocery stores I frequent — haven’t really tried looking for them either 🤣
Yes! I only read up on this after eating too much and my entire chest and neck got covered in tiny red dots.
Not all Brazil nuts are grown equally. The ones that grow closer to the Amazon River have much higher levels of selenium than those grown farther away. 7 nuts is probably a little fear mongering based since the odds are very low that all those nuts were grown in the same area.
I so get you about the taste! I’ll eat Brazil nuts with a piece of dark chocolate to mask the flavor a bit!
dude.. i just ate a whole pack of them and I‘m a teenager.. I‘m still alive
It’s more dangerous for older folks with failing organs.
The symptom I got when I overdosed on Brazil nuts was itchy palms.
