Former drunkorexic here – 0/10 do not recommend. You know what’s worse than waking up hungover? Waking up hungover and not allowing yourself to eat a meal that will give you energy and settle your stomach because CaLoRiEs. Ugh. Truly a masochistic practice.
After learning about the impacts just moderate drinking has on your sleep, gut, and long-term impulse control I’m concerned about even casual drinking, not just binge-drinking.
Alcoholism seems to be hereditary at least in my family…My Dad…His Dad…His Grandfather …His Great Grandfather all died of alcohol induced cirrhosis of the liver all at the exact same age of 33 …Fearing it might be something that could be passed down I haven’t touched a drop in over 10 years especially now that I turned 33 yrs old and am a parent myself it’s not worth the risk 🙏💯
Good for you! Alcoholism runs in both my family and my wife’s family so neither of us drink either.
Very smart, your children are lucky to have you
@allisonb3451 ☺️☺️☺️
its not alcoholism specifically, but both a tendency for how long it takes you to get addicted and how hard it is to not do the thing you are addicted to.
especially mean about this is that it seems that both are connected. families with genes for fast addiction often get hard to stop, too; while those with slow addiction often have it easier to stop.
It’s really great that you try to be a good example, but dont just be mindfull of alcohol. gambling, smoking and shopping for example are really harmfull, too, and since there doesnt seem to be a genetical component for the drug, it can be really tempting to substitute one for the other.
I dont want to say you do! Its just a possibility to look out for, too 🙂
Well said
Haven’t you had a hangover cure sponsor in the past? Hypocritical much?
I think you’re likely smart enough to see between the lines here and understand nuance. But I really wonder why you’d rather villainize instead of recognize that nuance. My guess is you either feel personally victimized or you’re just like a mean person who twists other words, like the kind of friend who makes drama where there is none. Either way, take a chill pill. Mature a little bit and do some self reflection.
I stopped drinking 5 months ago after 20+ years of drinking regularly. I will never go back. I don’t miss it one bit.
Yeah I had a professor that I was a TA for (it was his first year teaching, brand new PHD closer in age to his students than his colleagues). Who I would run into him on occasion at the YMCA gym that was like 2 blocks from the Uni. The amount of times he confessed to me that he was going to run for an extra hour and not eat until dinner because he had drinks the night before (anything more than 2) was ridiculous! That was 22 years ago, people have been doing this a long long time. It was so bad for him, his brain was useless while he punished himself for having two beers out with friends.
IMAGINE a 28 year old professor being sat down by your 23 year old TA to have an intervention about you hurtling headlong into an eating disorder. If you see your friends doing this, seriously talk to them.
