How Well Do GLP-1 Drugs Like Ozempic (Semaglutide) Work for Weight Loss?
Even under the best of circumstances, with the most potent GLP-1 drugs taken at the highest allowable doses for at least a year, studies show only a 34-pound drop before weight-loss stops.

Thank you!
Though it’s said to be cheaper here in Europe, I’m not taking any chances, I really prefer to just stay on a healthy weight
I’ve lost 50 pounds on tirzepatide and I’m thrilled! Still losing and it’s the easiest weight loss of my life. So grateful.
That means you’re one of the few. You’re in an exceptional class. For many others, they don’t lose as much and have plateaued.
Instead of taking your chances with the near and long-term side effects of such a drug have you ever considered just not eating so much?
@ lol, yeah, that’s how it works.
@ I know several people who are in that category and it’s a giant bummer. But their A1C numbers are much improved, so that’s a good thing.
Who the heck can afford $1,000 a month for a weight loss drug?? That’s literally like rent for most people
In North America one would be lucky to only pay that for rent.
20% non-responder rate is far overstated and cherry-picked. It’s more like 10% or less. And what’s wrong with a 34 pound weight loss? 34 pounds markedly decreases risk of all kinds of diseases while increasing health/vitality. And the meds are only going to get more effective. And they’re not the only tool — a WFPBD + exercise works wonders when combined with a GLP med.
That 10% non-responder rate seems more accurate than the 20% figure; it aligns more closely with published data. I think there’s nothing wrong with a 34-pound weight loss . It seems he’s reviewing the literature to gauge whether these GLP-1 drugs truly live up to their “miracle drug” reputation. In that light, it’s notable that while they can be highly effective, not everyone who takes them will no longer be obese. With all the influencer advertising, people might assume the drug does all the heavy lifting, whereas, as you’ve noted, it’s just one piece of the puzzle.
It is sad and disturbing that people even think of these drugs as part of a healthy weight loss plan. How did America become this ill? I think in America the food industry has worked so hard to make foods so cheap, low quality and so addictive that Americans just don’t have the willpower to put down the cheeseburger and the pizza and the high fructose corn syrup anymore. It is too delicious and too addictive and now instead of having to acquire that willpower, drug manufacturers have provided an extremely profitable alternative. Losing weight whilst doing no work whatsoever is the obese person’s dream come true. But there will be side effects, that much is certain. We won’t know just how bad until another 5 or 10 years from now.
Such unbiased reviews . The best. Honestly its still a miracle for overweight people even if it plateaus and they become dependant
Thanks for the series. Could up please talk about the over the counter glp supplements and what probiotics and other ingredients to look for in those for effective appetite control on a smaller scale for people who just want to curb their appetite a little bit but would never consider the actual rx options
