There are two main fuels your body runs on: carbohydrates and fat. When you reduce that easy fuel source (carbohydrates), your body is forced to draw energy from body fat storage or utilize dietary fats for energy. There are many perks that come from reaching this fat-adapted state, and anyone can get there by changing their food choices and eating schedule. But how do you know you’re on your way? This video shares seven signs you are becoming fat-adapted.

Yes, I can hardly eat sweets anymore and they don’t have the appeal they used to. Most don’t even taste like I remember them tasting.
I wish I could get to this point. Three years into low carb and 120 pounds down and I still struggle with the sweet cravings. Once I start it is so hard to stop.
@@fransak2723hang in there. Carb addiction is real. The longer you stay away from anything with a sweet taste – the easier it gets.

It also has maltodextrin. Making your own is simple, better for you and far more cost efficient. I used Mary’s Nest electrolyte drink recipe and would recommend it. Adding it to a seltzer is perfect. 😉 *this is not an ad*
Yes! I used to love chocolate…now it just tastes like brown colored sugared wax!
My most noticeable difference was not becoming “hangry” from hunger anymore and being able to go much longer periods without eating.
This was an excellent presentation.
Thank you!
Thank-you Dr. Becky. I hardly like the taste of sugar especially as I get to the bottom of my coffee if I had put a tsp of sugar in. Sugar tasted chemically. Not pleasant. I’m mostly just putting cream in my coffee or drinking it black. Tea… just some lemon juice. I’m liking those squat snacks you suggested every hour if sitting in front of the monitor too long. I don’t find my reflection in the mirror in the morning repulsive now. Thank-you!!
Good review. Thanks ❤
This doctor makes two claims I don’t like:
1) That fat adaptation is indeed an adaptation. It isn’t. We were born with the ability to use both fat and carbs as an energy source. When carbs are low, our body will use stored fat, and when they’re higher our body will use glucose. You can keep carbs quite high, but a mild calorie deficit will see you lose body fat over time anyway.
2) Since you shed water when depleting carbs, you should buy her recommended electrolyte product. Sigh. Another expert peddling products you don’t need.
Yeah. Plus, there’s other ways to lose weight and fat without going into ketosis like so many of these YouTube faces try and coerce people into doing.
1. The use of the word adaptation is appropriate. It means to get used to something new. Alot of people are addicted to carbs and sugar and need to adapt to the changes they’re going through.
2. There’s nothing wrong g with making a product and recommending it and being enterprising. Everyone knows they’re free not to buy it if they so choose. It wasn’t even her product, it was a sponsor. Heaven forbid she should make a living after giving free advice.
You’re being needlessly pedantic and unkind.
@wuzittooya Why are you even here? No one is being coerced into watching a youtube video. Unlike you, most of us are here because we’re choosing to learn about something we think may work for us, as opposed to coming here just to waste our own time.
LMNT is the real deal – I use the chocolate packets at night in hot water with a shot of heavy whipping cream and my night leg cramps are gone. And it’s yummy! I’m not affiliated with them in anyway, just a fan. I do intermittent fasting by eating breakfast and lunch and skipping dinner. These little packets help me do that.
Yep, sugary items don’t tempt me anymore. When I’ve had a bite of something I used to eat regularly, it tastes too sweet and sometimes tastes like chemicals to me.
TRUTH! Thank you Dr Becky! In five weeks, I went from 164 to 142 mostly due to 20+ hours Intermittent fasting and only sticking to fish proteins and selective green vegs like steamed broccoli and a daily mini avocado and drinking lots of water. Anything sweet has become a passing thought with lots of energy ❤❤❤
I have been practicing intermittent fasting (IF) and a low-carb diet for almost 10 years now, and everything mentioned has been true for me. Most sweets now taste too sweet, and I can easily resist them. I no longer feel tired after eating lunch and overall, I feel great and healthy. I have been able to maintain my weight and a body fat percentage of around 15% to 16% with relative ease thanks to IF. In my opinion, it’s one of the best health decisions I’ve ever made.
Oh, yes. Ate lots of sweets in the past. But now, sweet is TOO sweet. It actually HURTS. Berries are as sweet as I can tolerate. Or maybe a bit of honey. I still have an occasional hankering for vanilla ice cream. Or carrot cake — but my lady makes it with about 1/4 of the honey that the recipe calls for.
Sugar is like a drug —-the more you eat —the MORE you want —-Detox with apples
As a diabetic I find it such a difficult balancing act to keep carbs really low. For example, last night I was running on 30g carbs but was awake at 5am with a super low blood sugar reading of around 48 (2.6 on the HbA1c scale). Needed emergency glucose before I passed out. Not sure how to get the balance right.
😃
Milk is sweet all on it’s own. Don’t worry if you’re not losing quickly. Up your game. Intermittent fasting helps, but I started at 16 hrs, than 18 and now 20 hours, 3 times a week over 3 months. Very slow!❤
