The Grapefruit Diet. Remember that one? It has been around for decades, and most would simply write it off as just another Hollywood diet that (at its best) is a short-term fix and (at its worst) is a harmful approach to weight loss. But unlike similar diet fads that highlight a specific food in their name, the Grapefruit Diet allows you to eat more than just grapefruit. In fact, despite an obvious flaw in its design, at its core, it is a low-carb, high-protein diet. In this video, I’ll share what you could eat on the original grapefruit diet and show you how, with just two tweaks, this fad from the past can become a well-formulated diet.

Some problems with grapefruit and some medications…apparently

    • @philm9593 says:

Yes. Grapefruit juice and Amlodipine should be avoided. It’s written on the box.

@@philm9593because grapefruit naturally lowers blood pressure therefore there’s a risk of blood pressure getting too low.
Why don’t doctors just tell us to eat more grapefruit instead of pills 🤷🏻‍♀️

I probably will pass because i do not sit down for three meals- I’m eating on the run! I do not think i could incorporate the preloading grapefruit .

  • @janegilson1886 says:

Added bonus: if you hate grapefruit you won’t over eat it. LOL

  • @tims9434 says:

I avoid Grapefruit because it affects my (and most medications). I do like them though and if you’re not on medication definitely give it a go.

  • @jy4893 says:

    Are grapefruits ketogenic?

  • @thecarnivorecollective says:

Thank you for the update on this. Even though I am primarily animal based, there are times I want to try and old “diet” and literally was thinking about the grapefruit diet a few days ago. Like you said, the calories were so low it just wasn’t sustainable. I just might give this a go the next time I have a stall. On the last 15-20 lbs so it does get a little more difficult 😊

I think I will give it a go… I actually really like grapefruit anyway, thanks for the great video!

  • @lanetteehrhardt1225 says:

    Love it 😍

  • @tommyleejohnson7308 says:

Great video. Will have to pass on grapefruit for preloading. Issue of meds. Maybe use small portions of other fruits such as melons, apples, oranges, berries? Then again, I probably need to research idea of “preloading”.

57g of carbs is double what my insulin resistance/ T2 diabetes can handle.

    • @TheVinegarden says:

@@rachkate76 I try and stay under 20 carbs per day myself. However some people doing keto gauge their carbs higher. There’s about 28-30 carbs in one grapefruit. Maybe not doable everyday, but if you love grapefruit I bet you could add it in without much effect. Do you ever watch Glucose Goddess on YouTube. The one teaspoon of vinegar in water before a meal trick?

  • @lindaharrison175 says:

Dr Becky … are you familiar with Pemphigus, an autoimmune disease that causes skin blistering … I was going to go on an anti autoimmune diet plus eliminating foods that exacerbate the condition and it literally is almost all food … even the foods we consider like broccili and avocado etc😢

  • @deborahfraser9325 says:

I think I’ll pass on this one. Grapefruit tends to interfere with certain medications. I’ll just stick to my Keto-Carnivore diet.

  • @Lost1050 says:

I’m going to revisit grapefruit! I used to eat it often. It’s delicious to me, especially the ruby red!!

  • @MaraleeRowley says:

I am going to try this! I love grapefruit and have not eaten it in years! Thank you Dr. Becky

  • @inkinguptheplace says:

I workout like to try this but with just 1/2 grapefruit. It’s there a link to the revised meal plan?
