I remember one birthday asking for a fruit platter for my birthday. I had stomach issues but still wanted something sweet.
Quality fresh fruit is way more expensive than a box of cake mix and a little tub of icing. Not criticizing cake at all. I’m just acknowledging that this probably was a special splurge for her birthday. I think we get so wrapped up in what a birthday or celebration ‘should’ look like that we forget that it’s truly about celebrating people in a way that woulld mean the most to them.
She’s ignoring the fact it says low income in the description. Totally agree. Produce needs to be cheaper/subsidized to encourage a change in eating patterns. I myself would benefit from this
I’ve gotten fruit baskets for my birthday and holiday gifts because I was having a digestive system flair
Being that when I was very young there were very few fresh foods, we were on the food pantry diet 😅 I was actually extremely excited when I would get fruit, beautiful memories of my family receiving fruit but I do like cake as well so you can have both best of both worlds.
I’m like this too! I’d rather eat fruit than a birthday cake!
My favorite cake is literally fresh fruit, cream and yellow cake. While not straight up fruit, it’s still on the healthier end of desserts. If she likes it, fine.
A bowl of fruit is also great for allergies. No need to read over ingredients if you only pick the stuff you know you can eat.
Who says cake is the only thing that marks a good birthday?
Nobody said that, but that’s not what’s being discussed. Nowhere did she say you need to have cake or some dessert with not much good nutritional value for your birthday. She is saying a birthday is a perfect example of one of the many days (all of them) that you shouldn’t be extremely restrictive.
almond mum cake should be baked oats cake with greek jogurt and protein powser frosting and berries❤
We’re just going to ignore the fact it says low income in the pov captions?
I LOVE fruit, when i go to Chick Fil A I always order a large fruit cup instead of fries because their fruit always tastes fresh and it doesn’t leave me as bloated as the fries
I genuinely would prefer a bowl of fresh fruit over cake
I love fresh fruit especially berries so I’d be ecstatic to get that over cake 🍰
My students – from China – Korea etc always take fruit (rather than say chocolate) as a gift treat when then go somewhere for dinner. Also personally I prefer any dessert if it has fruit like berries etc.
When I was a child I actually really didn’t like the traditional chocolate cake in my country (and I still don’t). It’s a specific kind of chocolate cream that (to me) is way too heavy and sweet and gives me headache and nausea.
So I would always ask for a fruit cake which was basically just a thin sponge layer with a layer of vanilla pudding and absolutely loaded with fresh fruit! I would have totally been fine with just the pudding and fruit but we had to make it into a cake format mostly for the benefit of the guests. But I was super happy that my Mom made the effort to bake it specifically for me 💙
For the longest time I said I don’t want cake I just wanted a nice dinner and some fav fruits everyone always common you have to get a cake it’s your birthday and force it on me every year. I just caved. I wish I hadn’t but it gets so tiring with people assuming I’m doing it for a reason other than I want to.
I have a lot of allergies and ibs and I can’t eat candy or cakes. I looooove fruits and berries so this is what I have as candy❤️ I think it’s a wonderful option!
As a child/teenager/young adult I always got a watermelon for my birthday, it’s what I wanted!
Everyone talking about fruit for birthdays because of dietary issues but I just effing love fruit and that was my burthday meal request in my late teens purely because it’s genuinely my favourite food group! (I also asked for chocolate if that helps)
I grew up in singapore and special, high quality or rare to the country fruit, like strawberries, peaches and certain citrus fruits, are really common for celebrations. I used to freak out any time we got strawberries. Those things are easier to find now but I was growing up in the 90s/00s
Especially when organic strawberries are $10 my kids absolutely love berries
