Siim Land. After your last meal, what is the optimal time to wait before tracking your actual fasting window?
What about toothpaste? I’ve heard fluoride and certain sweeteners can trigger an insulin response which is common in big toothpaste brands.
Siim what about when people dry fast, do you get in autophagy quicker?
juntao11 Since this guy doesn’t seem to reply to comments very much, no. It’s not the same. Ketosis is when your body uses ketones to use your body’s fat storage as a fuel source as opposed too carbohydrates. Autophagy is when your body uses old ‘broken’ cells as a fuel source to create new cells. Similar but definitely different.
I’m anemic and fasting. Just wondering if taking an iron supplement will send me out of autophagy?

That ‘Disappointed’ meme might be the best thing ever!! Of course, I’m sitting down to a keto coffee after 24-hours of no food… I’m actually feeling pretty good & if I didn’t have a fridge full of food, I might consider a longer fast right now…maybe next week (I’m due).

@KingsDaughter. yes, it’s a safe way to end a long fast. Wound up fasting 8 days. It was my longest fast to date.
You never mentioned unsweetened or unfattened coffee in this video. I’ve been kind of leaning on black coffee and tea during my seven to ten day fasts. Do they reduce autophagy? If so, I would probably have to wean myself off of coffee to prevent the dreaded caffeine withdrawal syndrome when I fast. But then again, weaning myself off of something I’m too dependent upon cannot be a bad thing.

@Siim Land Thanks. I still plan to wean myself off coffee. I don’t like anything (or anyone) to have that kind of hold on me.April’s extended fast will be water, baking soda, and ACV only. I expect to do some heavy sweating at my factory job in Savannah, Georgia.

Hey Siim Land, one question. I’ve been fasting for a month now but haven’t lost more than 3 kg. I fast daily and I always tighten my eating window to 2 hrs eating lots of veggies and meat, no carbs at all. I also never eat sweets, cakes, pasta, cereal, crackers or any other refined carbs, sodas, etc. What could be the reason I’m not losing much more weight, I hear stories people doing IF 16:8 and during eating window they eat everything they like including sugary stuff and they lose a lot of weight, whereas I only eat fats and protein and have only two hrs before I jump to the next fast, could you help me with this?

@Siim Land 900-1100 calories approximately. I have it for lunch and that’s it for the day, the rest being fasting till the same time the following day
I got a 65 lb weightloss goal.
Started at 251, I’m down to 225 after 2 months of keto and IF, and I need to get to 185 lbs by the end of June.
I’m wanting to fast more often to tighten my skin, and I also want to do HIIT exercises,
But I didn’t know if it was bad to do HIIT during 48 hours of water fasting?
Just look at how you feel
Start taking 3-5 grams of collagen per day, at the end of your fast. Tightens skin, check pubmed for details.

But, should you exercise while fasting? Like, should I exercise after being 48h fasting considering I want to do a 72h fast? I can deal perfectly fine with resistance training after 24h fasting however, 48h fasting is starting to be a little hars for anything. 72h fast is ok aswell but I do not consider to workout in that state as I really feel my body is struggling a little. 96h fast is the longest I ever did.
Every time I do a prolongued fast like this, I break it with bone broth. 2 to 3 hours after breaking my fast, I usually have a strong diarrhea. It seems like my body is flushing the crap out of me. After that I am totally fine.
I have ulcerative colitis, and fasting, combined with some food patterns has saved my life. The last three episodes I had I went into remision just by fasting long enough. Awesome how powerful it is.
I’m so sorry if you already went over this, I just want to make sure I’m fasting correctly. Can I have herbal teas with cinnamon, nutmeg, or other spices during my fasts? Will it disrupt autophagy? Thank you so much for your wonderful video!

So I’m just curious, if a person is OMAD at roughly 700 calories (maybe 20 to 25 hour of no food) can autophagy happen? And is autophagy accumulative over time? Thanks for your videos Siim, I’m addicted!:)

Missed about coffee. Does it stop autophagy? Next if I have omad at 1pm stop at 2pm, 6 hours later the digestion process finishes. That is when you start timing the duration of the fast. So a 24 fast in this case would see me starting eating around 7pm the next evening. And 1pm the next afternoon. Correct.
About 13 hours after I stop eating, I workout with weights using progressive resistance for each major muscle group of the body. The workout lasts about 2.5 hours. I will normally break the fast about 18.5 hours after my last meal. I do this every other day. I am 73. Did I reach autophagy at or near the end of my workout?
hey siim, you really made the understanding of when that FAST truly starts. in your stomach…you have to time the start of fast.. from after last meal FULLY digestion!! vitamin info..had no idea!..GREAT INFORMATIVE video .thank you for all great teaching/explaining for everyday person to understand. you are a wise young soul
