I only chew gum when I’m at the gym because I pull weird faces when I concentrate, and the gum stops me from looking too crazy πŸ˜…

  • @orangesegment5674 says:

Unrelated, but I LOVE that sweater

  • @KelseyKoala says:

It’s believable, at my worst point with disordered eating I had a little drawer filled with like 15 different flavors of gum and chewed it constantly

    • @chloelittlejohn7694 says:

I was going to say this as well.. i chewed gum 24/7 throughout my ED

    • @chris_freaky305 says:

Yyup. Gum was my best friend, I chewed it until I couldn’t speak from the jaw pain as a way to skip breakfast and dinner :/
      Worst part is, it worked.

  • @thefryinator7774 says:

Chewing gum makes me more hungry and I heard that doing it excessively is really bad for your teeth, so I had to quit

    • @rachelk2457 says:

Well it can cause your jaw to pop more at the dentist because it tightens the muscle connecting your jaw to your skull. I am speaking from experience and my dentist said it was a thingπŸ˜…

  • @realconservatives9430 says:

I don’t really like chewing gum

    TW: ED talk

When i was in the throes of my ED 16 or so years ago, I was chewing gum nonstop to suppress hunger. I ended up getting so bloated from all the sorbitol consumption and then was even more mentally fucked up wondering why I didn’t have a flat belly. Needless to say, chewing gum as an appetite suppressant is not a good idea. I actually am a little fearful of chewing gum even now bc I just remember how uncomfortable it felt back then. I prefer to get my sorbitol from fruits now. πŸ˜…

For a moment I thought that you put a trigger warning for a TED talkπŸ˜‚

    • @catalinabilandzija4217 says:

I had the exact same experience in my ED, in the depths of it, I chewed so many pieces a day not only to suppress hunger but also try and suppress my anxiety too. I got such bad bloating, digestion, and even jaw problems. I choose to stay away from it now too lol

  • @meirarosenbloom7367 says:

Off topic question. Where did you get this sweater? It’s beautiful!!

  • @Maybe_Roo says:

Chewing gum always makes me feel super hungry for some reason.

    • @Maybe_Roo says:

My mum used to say it’s because the act of chewing makes the stomach acid react in a certain way because it’s expecting food but I don’t know if that’s true or just an old wives tale.

    • @annetanoh3891 says:

      Me too…and thirsty

  • @rachelk2457 says:

I chew gum because I used to smoke a little πŸ˜… but I only chew gum in the evenings. It helped me quit smoking but that technique might not work on chain smokers because I only smoked once a week πŸ˜… so I wasn’t super addicted.πŸ˜…

  • @Jas-ru9dk says:

I used gum to quit smoking….smoke free for 3 years πŸŽ‰ so now when i chew gum it makes me want a cigarette

  • @arica1798 says:

It puts air in my stomach

  • @flaviopons142 says:

Wait what? I chew gum when I am having slow digestion after lunch and I want to help it so I can have dinner at my normal time ^^’

  • @Luna-luna909 says:

It could help with indigestion or if you have eaten a lot. You can chew sugar free gum for 10 to 15 minutes after the meal and this will trick your mind into thinking that you are still eating and more food is on the way, so it will speed up the digestion process, or so I was told. I think it’s just because of the extra saliva that is produced thanks to the gum chewing. Saliva does help with digestion. Anyways, it is quite helpful. Just don’t make a habit out of it.

  • @gigglingchicken8444 says:

My tmj does not allow me to chew gum. But tea helps when I want to eat because I am bored or stressed. Plus I love tea so much so I really enjoy it. If I am still hungry after tea then I make myself something to eat.

  • @naima3654 says:

I’m an avid gum chewer and have been since I started a weight loss into now maintenance journey. It truly helps me bridge the gap between meals and snacks, mentally at least. I don’t view it as either a meal or snack, but it does help me stay on track.

  • @RoastedSaltedPeanut says:

I used to chew a lot of gum mainly to stop boredom snacking but I had to stop because my TMJ got so bad that I cracked my molar in half

  • @mooinsb4124 says:

    Where’d u get the jumper!? Love ❀

  • @Creativedork32 says:

I chewed 2 whole packs of gum a day during my ED. I had to ration it out to make it last through the day. Those were dark times. Please eat food y’all

  • @kittster2785 says:

So chewing gum encourages disordered eating but Ozempic doesn’t? Mmmmkay πŸ₯΄

  • @giuseppeferrara952 says:

And I bet if you chewed gum yourself, it’s okay in your books because “it felt good to you.” But if someone else did it, they have an ED. Talk about double standards. Regardless, let’s not pretend that taking Ozempic for the hopes of an easy path to lose weight is not as bad as, if not worse than, chewing gum. Your friend, Ginger, happens to be no exception to this.

They’re simply sharing their opinion, and it’s your own issue if you can’t take it as feedback. Also, having go-to responses to these comments, like “you didn’t watch the video” or calling them trolls, only reveals the snarky side of you and is highly unprofessional.
