Hey everyone, I’m Abbey Sharp, and welcome back to Abbey’s Kitchen! For years, I’ve been busting diet culture myths, tackling toxic wellness trends, and unpacking the viral chaos of What I Eat in a Day videos. Today’s breakdown? I'm reacting to KarissaEats. She makes money by eating massive amounts of “unhealthy” food—and there’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye. 🍟🥤 Is this playful entertainment, or something much deeper (and darker)? Stay tuned to find out!

  • @hula62 says:

Karrissa Eats, I noticed she only eats TWO BITES. I don’t think she eats all the food. Yet, I love Karrissa Eat. She is all over the world which is so interesting.

  • @amandab9726 says:

It’s no secret, these food bloggers just try a bite or two and they exercise because they need to look good for their videos. This is a job for people. It’s nice of Karissa to show what happens when the camera stops rolling. I see this the same as those ladies who do these huge hauls at target. They probably don’t actually purchase or end up returning all the junk they buy to make their content.

    • @themagicknightress7132 says:

Or they’re going into debt to keep up appearances

    • @The_biggest_dickest says:

It’s clear they just doesn’t eat that much, and she probably has a great relationship with food. So she eats as much as she needs and works out every now and then. Not everything is a scam. I do the same thing too

    • @nberkel says:

It’s the same with any job. You do things to sustain and keep your career. Just because it involves exercise to maintain a certain physique or level of health doesn’t make it any worse than a news anchor having to wake up at 2am to be at the station and be on the air by 5am…

    • @bigchicken5243 says:

i kinda expected it from her because you only see like one or two bites and i think thats actually okay, shes enjoying her food in smaller portions

  • @AlgyPond says:

I love Karissa, the way she talks about food is always descriptive and joyful and never seems too copius to me? Like I doubt she films every day and what she has always looks like what I might go for on a vacation or a special day out. She eats with family and friends too so while she may rate 4 sandwiches at one meal she’s likely only eating like one at that meal.

    • @Lilyanna298 says:

She seems like a nice person but she does create a false impression that you can binge burgers or donuts all day and stay thin and healthy. She at least should be more upfront that she doesn’t only takes a bite out of the food she eats

    • @AlgyPond says:

@Lilyanna298  yeah maybe… I guess to me it just seems logical that a food reviewer who makes eating their career wouldn’t be able to eat the entirety of everything they sample? Nor would they wanna do that every day. Buy I can understand that maybe not everyone would think about it that way. I also never get recommended her mukbangs so I didn’t even realize she did those.

  • @danimariafe says:

karissa has helped so many people with ED’s, to me that is the most important thing about her content. and also she has always been open about her sharing the food in her comment section

  • @c4m1ll3. says:

karissa is a great example for how people only want to see unhealthy food when it’s eaten by a thin person

    • @danimariafe says:

yes but also she is KNOWN for how good she describes food and she tries from all around the world. check most of her comments

    • @yallthought8444 says:

100000%. I’ve been saying to people that all mukbangs should be off the internet, not just ones people don’t want to see. The difference in comments is crazy.

    • @YeliMe says:

💯💯💯💯💯. There are layers to this great comment. The pass she is given because she is pretty, charismatic to some, and talks about the food in a way people like still does not take away from the fact that she and many others promotes over indulgence, glorifying gluttony in a “cute” “acceptable” way. I’m not singling her out at all!! There are now many toxic tik tok of very pretty girls eating copious amounts of food and not talking just staring at camera while shoving food in mouth. Normalizing binge eating in a any way is not healthy mindset especially for the many young viewers and many struggling with eating issues.

    • @heather6679 says:

This isn’t even factually true. Abbey herself has covered “non thin” food influencers. And recently.

    • @skoopman2675 says:

First of all; Not all the food Karissa eats is unhealthy and as Abbey always says “No food is unhealthy, but the dose makes the poison”. Karissa reviews food around the world and that’s interesting and it really doesn’t matter to me if she was skinny or obese, black or white, male or female. By the way, Karissa doesn’t have a skinny figure but a normal healthy body with enough bodyfat and muscle mass.

  • @glitzsz says:

as someone who struggles with not wanting to eat a lot due to health issues, karissa’s content along with yours helps me gain the courage to eat when i dont feel like eating. this was such an awesome video to watch!

  • @AJK0119 says:

Her videos also add a lot of value by sharing foods from different cultures with an open mind and great descriptions!!

  • @sarak4219 says:

just because you CAN be healthy at any weight doesn’t mean that you ARE healthy at every weight. I think people forget that.

  • @jesssealey6552 says:

I think her content is less about eating multitudes of unhealthy food for the sake of views generated through extremes and more like food tourism. She’s promoting restaurants and rating their foods, encouraging travel and tourism in multiple towns, cities and country in a way that is almost a universal language of food ratings and expressions. Her long form content has her touring cruise ships and countries via sponsorship from these businesses and countries tourism boards. Thats my interpretation at least, a social media friendly level of what was a food critique/journalist in written media. Perhaps this is the evolution of what you used to do Abbey.

    • @LouisaWatt says:

I’m curious about the travel and culture aspect. Her content is really awesome.

    • @DanielleMisc96 says:

I 100% agree with this! She’s not bingeing at all, but trying different and unique things from all over the world. This is so different from mukbang style content… that is what is actually someone eating “massive amounts of unhealthy food,” as Abbey puts it. Karissa just tries a bunch a stuff, she’s not stuffing her face. Abbey really twisted this one to be something it’s not imo.

    • @mozorellastick2583 says:

Yes! I think she’s done a wonderful job of promoting and showcasing cultural foods not familiar to Americans

  • @karenhawkins8510 says:

I watch Karrissa because of her travels and she eats a huge variety of foods. I do question the amount of sugar she eats, but what I see is that she is not one to sit still, and that could be the reason she has such a calorie rich diet.

    • @Becca_H85 says:

She did share her fitness routine and that’s one hell of a fitness routine.
She also does share her foods and doesn’t eat it all alone. And not every day.

  • @Fluffylover121 says:

I think that her choosing to hop on the cucumber salad trend (which she did film and upload on her instagram btw) on Saturday after a few days of only eating fried, fatty food IS her way of trying to honor her body’s cues for a more nourishing meal. Like she may have been thinking, “I’ve eaten a lot of plain carbs and fat the last few days and now I’m really craving a vegetable. Oh there’s a trend that actually includes vegetables so now ifs a good time to jump on that”

  • @leahmommy7711 says:

I love Karissa, she exudes positive energy ✨

  • @elizabethmccoy272 says:

I love it!!! I was nervous because y’all are two of my favorite channels 🙂

One thing I LOVE about her is you’ll see her post a lot, but the more you watch you see she does a cool trip or destination and the shorts come from that

  • @cristinabock1310 says:

What I like about her channel is the traveling and trying the local foods. I love learning about different cultures and their foods.

  • @Losketch13 says:

This year I lost 12 kilos from autoimmune disease, I honestly thought I was dying at one point. So many people asked how I lost weight and got healthy. People are also nicer. It is kind of awkward when I explain that I lost weight because I was extremely sick.

  • @Youraveragefoodiee says:

Karissa is from the only “food eating” creators i actually follow and watch – she is from the only ones that i feel like the way she eats is very close to a realistic eating day and she often makes the disclaimers that she doesnt finish the food

  • @ChristineAnne-Marie says:

I love that Karissa made this video because she shows kind of behind the scenes of her day to day… working out, how much she truly eats, etc. I think she has a good balance of staying active and eating in moderation. Plus she’s always so positive, even when she doesn’t like something! Her content is uplifting and not over the top. ❤

  • @Ashleywalden92 says:

I appreciate the transparency of this video from her! I wanted to ask if you’ve ever thought about reviewing the what I eat in a day videos from Love Sweat Fitness? I feel like she’s pretty healthy but sometimes I hear something and wonder what you would think about it. Anyway I loved this video and thank you for unpacking it!

  • @Mirjana-oz3mv says:

Karissa is like a gold retriever among influencers. All support to her love her content
