Makes sense but I’m lonely af
There’s a lot to unpack on why married men live longer. Like married men are happier than single men but, from what I understand, this isn’t as true for women. Based on TikTok it’s because women do the lions share of household work, child rearing, and mental and emotional labour. Some have gone as far as comparing women’s role in marriage to indentured servitude. Men gain a lot from being married and women give a lot. Depending on the relationship that might be worthwhile for the woman but often it’s not if the husband is basically an extra child to look after in the family. It’s also why you’ll see comments on posts about about men’s accomplishments calling them out for not acknowledging their partner’s contributions e.g. man runs extreme ultra marathon or hikes up mountain while also having a business and 3 kids – how does he do it? His wife carries the entire relationship and family responsibility burden allowing then man to focus only on his work and hobby. In this case it’s an extreme sacrifice for the wife who often does not get to have any time to pursue her own hobbies, personal obligations, or self care. I’m not saying all marriages are unequal but a lot of them are more unequal than people realise and the benefits skew heavily towards men which may explain why married men have the bigger longevity benefit
