While Prof. Lustig has raised concerns about high fructose consumption from processed sugars, it’s important to note that the fructose in whole fruits like berries comes with fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients that help the body process it differently. Berries, in particular, have been shown to support brain health and reduce inflammation, which makes them beneficial despite their fructose content. So, while Lustig’s point is valid in the context of processed foods, the natural fructose in whole fruits doesn’t pose the same risk and actually contributes to better health outcomes.
