How to Get Enough Polyphenols for Life Extension
Is the link between flavonoid consumption and longevity cause-and-effect, and are all sources of flavonoids equally healthy?
I have more than 200 videos on longevity. Check out the topic page ( ).

Thank you for such inspiring videos! They are just wonderful! 😚🍒
Thank you for such inspiring videos! They are just wonderful! 🍓🌺
I’ve been taking a statin drug since my heart surgery 15 years ago. I do miss grapefruit. Now if I could just give up pretzels.
Olive oil?
Watching this while eating polyphenols!!!
EVOO and olive leaf extract oil.
I wonder if the grapefruit results would still hold true for people not on meds
the Grapefruit and its bitter compounds have so many powerful benefits to the body, that when combined with pharma drugs, can cause all sorts of issues, of course pharmacologists would interpret the data to then label grapefruit as bad, grapefruits effects are powerful, but cant speak for itself and doesn’t have customers to lose.
The cost of berries is an interesting one. Compare the cost of them against candy bars and they’re comparably affordable. Compare the cost of them against lamb, beef, pork, chicken and they’re highly affordable.
And then there’s the cost of dental work from excessive candy consumption vs eating berries. And the value of your health and life expectancy.
On top of that I find fresh ripe blue, straw, rasp, black berries more delicious than candy.
But yeah, for sure, they’re more expensive than onions.
BTW when I was growing up, fresh gooseberries were easily available in June / July / August. These days they’re very challenging to find.
Frozen berries are even more affordable than fresh and just as nutritious from what I’ve understood. Also, I’m willing to bet organic coco or cocoa powders (those free of heavy metals) have the same nutritional benefits as dark chocolate, and is certainly more affordable than dark chocolate bars.
Yeah, most frozen berries are actually picked and frozen when they’re fresh so they’re both great and more affordable.
I always start the day off with a protein smoothie consisting of frozen black, wild frozen berries, dark mixed red cherries, and dark cacao powder (low in contaminants) to really pack in my polyphenols and antioxidants into my breakfast. Follow it up with dark Italian roast coffee 😊 Yum Yum 😊
Yes get frozen berries for smoothies. Every one knows Lollies (candy) and soft drinks (soda pops 😂) are terrible for you and shouldn’t be comparing to that crap.
Fruit has no protein, zero point in comparing them with protein sources
Ягоды фрукты это всё тоже что конфеты.
Жуйте горькие травы и кору осины, мы веганы – зайки этого мира 🤍🤍
I always tell people, eat your beans, greens, nuts and seeds!
This was quite informative, Dr. Greger. Thanks!
I suppose that’s the caveat against grapefruit also applies two pomelos.
Thank you!
EGCG from green tea is very powerful
This quote from the first study cited on this video says it all:
_Although there is evidence that polyphenols may impact aging by influencing different regulatory systems, however, similar to the theories of aging, scientific attempts at understanding lifespan modulatory attributes of polyphenols appear to be largely isolated and one-dimensional in nature. As a result, our knowledge of the mechanisms and implications of polyphenols mediated health beneficial attributes vis-à-vis the phenomenon of aging have generally remained ambiguous and incomplete._
I will summaize using their words:
_…our knowledge of the mechanisms and implications of polyphenols…remained ambiguous and incomplete._
In other words, this is basically all just a bunch of theory “supported” by weak, epidemiological studies.
Pseudoscience.
