Old tech… Apple Watch 6 came out in 2020, oura ring 3 in 2021…

  • @Adam-rf5xp says:

    You shouldn’t even include sub-based devices…

  • @KoenDeJaeger says:

There’s a dutch YouTuber doing scientific analysis on wearables. Pixel and apple watches are also very good for sleep tracking.

  • @yuyang4628 says:

I like this kind of video quite a lot. Thanks! 👍

  • @jozefwoo8079 says:

My personal experience with Oura ring is that heart rate tracking doesn’t work half of the time (even though I’m following all their guidelines). It also underestimates deep sleep quite often according to research. Trying the Eight Sleep mattress cover (Pod 4)now which was 3800 € here (Belgium) 😮😮 – really do hope it helps improve sleep for that money! It’s pleasant in any case. But generally, these sleep trackers are not worth it if you are able to just follow the general recommendations for better sleep. If they can motivate you to change your habits, then they might be worth it.

  • @MoeShlomo says:

Oura Ring 4 was released in October 2024.

  • @augustmosco says:

Good video, Siim. I’ve been using the Fitbit brand for over 10 years now. I like it and find it fairly accurate in many ways except for its sleep accuracy. The sensors can’t seem to identify the REM cycle well and this messes with the algorithm giving me a lower total score, which is psychologically defeating. If it’s off with the REM cycle, who’s to say the other detections are accurate.

    • @Th3D4nny says:

Yeah it does this for me too. With fitbit I always score on the low end of normal REM sleep range(barely), while whoop reads way more REM sleep and shows that I get more than enough, which makes sense considering I sleep very well. Fitibit, charge 6 at least, is one of the better sleep tracking wearables so not sure if we are just freaks that it can’t properly measure our REM.

  • @lifebytadlock says:

Good video. You can put the WHOOP in airplane mode at least when you sleep you can put the phone in airplane mode and then assuming you set the sleep mode before you put it in airplane mode and when you wake up, it will catch up

    • @martin_in_the_alps says:

Exactly, beyond that, you don’t have to go in to sleep activity. The automatic detection is spot on.

  • @KST9182 says:

Brilliant comparisons & detail & pros & cons analysed also – huge thanks Siim. 👏

  • @BestStockStrategy says:

    UH does have airplane mode…

  • @kylebiggs8849 says:

It’s WHOOP > any ring wearable because lifting heavy weights while wearing a bulky ring with a battery inside is a no-go.

  • @flyheli says:

I’ve had the same experience with Oura and Whoop. I understand why Brian Johnson likes Whoop so much because it’s so easy to get a 100% sleep score which he likes to brag about 🙂
Oura seems more realistic with the sleep tracking results.

    • @elschumi says:

      Exactly

    • @ThomasAT86 says:

Fully agreed, and the algorythm likely fits him better. Bryan/blueprint suggesting highest quality, testing and so forth and then using Whoop to brag about 100% sleep scores feels off and dishonest.

    • @richtofen4888 says:

@@ThomasAT86Could you explain this a bit further if you don’t mind? Do you think it’d be less likely for him to achieve a 100 sleep score streak on something like the Oura ring?

  • @TheConsciousNPC says:

It would be weird if there was airplane mode on 8 sleep. Unless you are planing on using it on a airplane😂

  • @lukaszklopotek says:

You missed the most accurate ones: Apple Watches and recent Garmin watches eg. Fenix 7 pro, Fenix 8.

  • @pjaworek6793 says:

I wore my fitbit to a polysomnography overnighter and the sws was a match, the thing i was most interested in. Rem is easy, sleep longer. With low sws, you can’t sleep longer, it’s exhausting being in bed with low sws. That’s probably all the people saying they, “don’t need that much sleep”, they do, there’s just issues preventing that.

Oh, and I wore a $30 watch recently compared to my fitbit and those were a match too. Fitbit better resolution on the graph but cheap newer tech watch shows all kind of data fitbit does not. Hrv charts, etc.

  • @Scottlp2 says:

Oura ring has 4th model. Any data on it?

  • @GTLifts9999 says:

What I like about the whoop is the Journal and insights. You can see how specific things like melatonin, eating your meals away from going to bed, taking a multivitamin, alcohol etc impact your sleep.

  • @elschumi says:

Oura 4 is very similar to 3 but subjectively even longer battery life. The Oura app now also tells your state (stressed, engaged etc over time). I also have an Apple Ultra but wearing the ring at night is way more preferable. Apple always seems to underestimate deep sleep opposed to all other sleep trackers (Oura, Ultrahuman).

  • @ThomasAT86 says:

Nice video. I actually ordered the RingConn 2 yesterday, hope it doesn’t completely suck. Now I kinda regret not getting an Oura.

I wonder though: 1) Do these errors stay the same, so would a less accurate tracker still be useful? 2) How well do they work for people who don’t have good sleep?
