Lesser-Known NAD+-Boosting Supplements: Tryptophan, NADH, NMNH, and NRH
What are the pros, cons, and efficacy of dihydronicotinamide riboside (reduced NR), perhaps the most potent NAD+ precursor, as well as reduced NMN, taking NAD+ directly, or making it from scratch from tryptophan?

Thank you!
Thanks Dr. Greger
This was a fascinating breakdown of NAD+ boosters! I loved the clarity you brought to complex topics like NADH vs. NMNH and NRH. The information about tryptophan’s side effects and historical context was really eye-opening too. It’s good to know about these lesser-known supplements before trying them. Thanks for the informative video!
Loving the series so far… very objective overview, different to what longevity gurus put out there.
How about 5-HTP ? Its a sort of tryptofan ? Is it safe ?
@igorolssen7338 I have the same question. Was going to start taking 50g at night to see if it would help with insomnia
Are there more potential risks than benefits of taking a lower dose of tryptophan at night (250g) to see if it helps with insomnia and symptoms of depression? Was willing to give it a try before starting Ssris, but the idea of being contaminated or increasing the risk of cancer is not reassuring.
I also have a low intake of protein due to GI problems and difficulty with digestion and was recommended to take a small dose of an amino acid blend with my meals, which already contain a bit of tryptophan. Same risks apply?
