I have used diet and exercise to avoid prescription drugs my whole life (I’m 65 in June). I think I will do the same to avoid weight-loss drugs too.

Does exercise or being active help with weight loss after the plateau? I’m wondering if any of these people exercise daily.. I know two people on Ozempic and neither exercise. They stopped losing after about a year but aren’t physically able to exercise or even be more active in daily life.
The people I know don’t exercise and haven’t changed what they eat. Still consuming high-calorie processed crap, just less of it. Exercise helps, of course, but changing what one eats has better results. And depending on their situation weight loss makes exercise and activity easier.
I was on this type of drug for T2D and I lost about 8%. When I stopped the medication and switched to wfpb I lost a lot more-more than I care to say. For me, it was effortless. I like all sorts of foods, I’m a really good cook and I prioritized spending the relatively small amount of extra time for shopping, prepping and cooking. Plus I have an amazing support system. So there’s that. My activity increased as the weight dropped, partly because the RA resolved and I just felt better. Everyone’s experience is different.
I would like to know the research on Phentermine. I am currently on a half dose and have lost weight with it along with diet and exercise 4-5 days a week.
Its kind of similiar to Ephedrine. Its a weak amphetamine, but has appetite suppressing effects, and will help stimulate metabolism through central nervous system stimulation
Dr. Gregor, I love your work. But why are you bringing up old school diet drugs that were around back in the 1940s and 50s, and were banned over 50 years ago, and other ones were that banned 15 years ago?
JMHO but perhaps to illustrate that long-term side effects only show up after long-term use and what seems to be a magic bullet turns out to have serious downsides that aren’t immediately apparent and can be life-threatening. Not in the same class, but shoe stores used to have fluoroscopes to x-ray kids’ feet to check for shoe fit. Point being, some things are assumed to be safe until they aren’t and often by then it’s too late for those who have been affected.
I think the stall in weight loss is because people don’t adjust their calorie intake based on their new metabolic rate after they have lost quite a bit of weight.
