Weight Loss is Hard Enough Without These Myths

Despite knowing better and needing to eat better, I was overweight for years. I exercised but resisted healthy eating because it seemed like I was in love with the wrong foods, and I didn’t feel like I fit into “that crowd” anyway. As it turns out, my reluctance to change was all in my head based on myths I accepted as truths. This video shares three myths that prevented weight loss and healthy eating from getting a foothold in my life. My hope is that by the end of the video, you’ll see, as I did, that you got this.

I love the fact that you don’t go into deep, science and all kinds of confusing molecular descriptions. You keep it simple and real. Thank you very much.

#3 is my favorite. Make sugar special, not ordinary.

Thanks for the tips, Dr. Becky.

  • Vincent Conti says:

I use to buy a half gallon of the best orange juice in the supermarket every morning and drink at work. I thought i was drinking something healthy!!! Yikes!!!!!!

  • Cindy Foley says:

All of the different theories and diets have got me afraid to even eat …if I eat carnivore am I going to eat too much red meat causing me to get an overload of iron as a menopausal woman am I going to develop colon cancer if I eat too much red meat. If I eat vegan am I going to suffer those health consequences. Which I tried in the past and my body became very inflamed with arthritis. It’s so convoluted it’s frustrating and aggravating I’m about to throw up my hands I just don’t know what to do.The only thing I do know is to avoid the ultra processed and packaged foods. They are like a drug I swear they have something in them that drives you to want to eat more.

“Make it special, not ordinary”, that is very helpful. The word NEVER sends me to the cookie aisle. Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Becky! This was a great video to motivate me to make it a lifestyle. I love the “finish the sentence” analogy. Powerful video.

I have almost eliminated sugary starchy foods from my diet. No luck, stilll not losing weight. Takes a lot more salad to stuff yourself to feel sated. Now instead of sugary crap I eat “good” crap, like nuts, cheese, and jerky. No sugary crap but heavy loads of calories. I try fasting and make it maybe an hour. 🙂

  • Christine Peters says:

Thank you for always giving simple tips to help us stay on track. For me, I would order a bunless bacon cheeseburger, extra meat with no fries or sugar drink. Because I need to eat more protein and fat to fuel my body. My husband and I have been ketovore for the last four years. We’ve had the most amazing results in our metabolic and mental health. I hope your husband is well and I miss seeing ya’ll together. Thank you for all you do, Dr. Becky.

  • Stefan van der Spuy says:

Fortunately I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to eat Corn Flakes, cup cakes, sugarly cookies or donuts. I don’t ever crave sugar. Sometimes I would enjoy walnut and giant roasted peanuts with a little salt, but I keep the latter to a minimum.

  • Jackie Savoy says:

Couldn’t you have the burger without the roll and green vegetable in place of French fries?

  • SUGPIAQ BARBIE says:

I lost weight eating low carb. Have kept the weight off. Summer is over so I started low 59 carb limit. It was easy to jump back into a routine. I bought your book and have used many times. It is a delight to see my body burning ketones. Psychology was my biggest hurdle losing weight. I just kept telling myself whole foods matter. Doing the same healthy routine got me to my target weight. I have adjusted to that weight and now plan to take off the last 15 or at least see how my body adjusts to 15 less. My journey has not been perfect but i saw first hand how carbs affect me, how exercise affects me and how grace really matter! Thanks for all your great videos! I have watched many low carb gurus and I always prefer your steadfast teaching over all of them!

  • Susan Findell says:

Make sugar special, not ordinary. That’s great ! I’m doing so well on my eating habits of avoiding sugar, refined carbs and seed oils, my body composition has totally changed. I do have a small dessert on occasion and I’m not going to feel guilty about it.
