Ive been growing sprouts for a couple years now after a couple of my grocery stores stopped selling alfalfa sprouts. Super easy and way cheap compared to store bought, I go through about 1-1.5 pounds of seeds per year I get from Amazon.

  • @brahmasatyamjagatmithya says:

I’ve got to try those broccoli sprouts now, I love radishes and can’t go wrong with those health benefits 👍

  • @mandym8781 says:

Thanks Derek! This is so helpful and the timelapse was cool to see! I’ve wanted to sprout but keep telling myself it’s too hard! I feel like I could give it a go now! 👍🌱

  • @calatheaflamestar4924 says:

Omg. This video is just what I needed! I recently ordered organic grains and seeds (for sprouting) from my area and didn’t have the motivation to start yet.
    This is a sign😂 Thanks a lot!🙏♥️

  • @Applefan101 says:

Love it Derek. I’ve been doing this since 40 years now. Very beneficial for us. Thanks ❤

  • @melo7444 says:

Well presented. Sprouts are so good! I love sprouting mung beans, they’re so good in stir frys or steamed/blanched and put in soups.

  • @lindsaytoussaint says:

Love the mushroom shirt! Also I used to sprout lentils – idk why I stopped. Would love to have some broccoli sprouts for sandwiches etc. Gotta go get some seeds!

  • @italianprincess5046 says:

thank you !!! im on day 3 in my first batch ! can’t wait to try other sprouts and esp the quinoa!! thanks derek and crystal

  • @arlene1212 says:

I grow Broccoli Sprouts all the time! Not only are they the healthiest to eat their a lot cheaper than what the grocery store sells. True Leaf Market are favorite seeds to buy from.

  • @dylansikorski says:

Raw, living, organic food gives you unlimited energy! Thanks for the video, Derek. Love that you’re getting into sprouting.

  • @meghangantt717 says:

I’ve been here long enough–I learned how to grow sprouts from your last sprouts video! 😁

  • @jodieparker4930 says:

Perfect timing on this video. For the last couple of days I’ve been searching online for sprouting lids and seeds and trying to learn all I can. Very helpful!

  • @theresadoll5374 says:

Beautiful! I reckon you should upload a time lapse video of every sprouting you do … where else can you watch a thousand new lives spring to life in just a few minutes? How about a “Sprout Sunday”?

  • @linzertube says:

This was an excellent video to encourage and teach us the basics of sprouting. Thanks, Derek!

I have been sprouting and growing microgreens for over 30 years. I love them. While I grow many varieties for health my favorite taste wise is Fenugreek. I prefer my Sunflower seeds as micro greens. They are much easier to grow than many people claim. You do not need grow lights, a sunny window will do. Though you can use soil I prefer to use a soiless matt material made for growing this way. Along with Sunflower greens pea shoots and buckwheat lettuce are easy to grow this way too.

    • @teagoldleaf4137 says:

Oh pea shoots so delicious, they’re right up there with sunflower sprouts. Now I’ll have to try fenugreek. I’ll look for the mix 🌱

    • @mommaz820 says:

Sunflower micros are tricky, I’ve used soil, coco coir and paper towel so far. What type of mat do you use, the hemp ones? I’ve had the best luck with soil, but do find it messy.

  • @Kathryn721 says:

This so timely! We wanted to start sprouting again this weekend and then BOOM, up pops your video! Great minds Derek!

  • @teagoldleaf4137 says:

    Love this video!!!
I’ve always been intimidated about sprouting 😮
But now I’ll try it 😊
Sunflower 🌻 sprouts are my favorite 🌱

  • @kurtcrean says:

That’s awesome! I was wondering a few days ago as a step into home growing, we will definitely be giving this a go, thank you!

We would love to see more videos on the plants you’re growing for food!

  • @johnbrazell2433 says:

Another great video. Very informational as usual. Just a note I have been sprouting seeds for a while now. For myself of course but also for my birds. My parakeets and cockatiels absolutely love them. Birds fed strictly on seeds will eventually die from malnutrition because seeds do not contain all the nutrients that they need. So adding these to your greens and to your protein that you give your bird aside from bird seed will help them nutritionally as well as help them live longer.

  • @katrinakim4145 says:

I’m a new vegan and a homeschooling mom, so this will be the perfect project for me to do with my kids! Thank you!
