Is green rooibos (analogous to green tea) healthier than red rooibos, the commercially more common oxidized form that’s akin to black tea?

I’ve never actually seen green rooibos for sale anywhere in South Africa, unfortunately.

I add red rooibos to my daily tea medley. I never knew there was a green rooibos until this video 😊

  • @RoughNeckDelta says:

I just saw this on an Amazon review on green rooibos, I thought it was interesting…

According to one study, polyphenols comprise 41 percent of the total solid matter in green rooibos tea extract but only 30 percent of the total solid matter in red rooibos tea extract. However, several studies say that drinking one cup of red rooibos tea would be just as healthy for us as drinking one cup of green rooibos tea. The reason is that one tea bag of red rooibos tea can only be steeped in hot water about twice while one tea bag of green rooibos tea can be steeped in hot water 4 or 5 times. In other words, red rooibos tea leaves deplete themselves better than green rooibos tea leaves when dipped into hot water. That’s why scientific studies agree that the first cup of red rooibos tea contains just as much beneficial phytochemicals as the first cup of green rooibos tea.

Rooibos tea gave me terrible headaches.

  • @jageo48 says:

I cold brew my tea overnight in the refrigerator. I use locally found clean dandelion flowers, also adding green tea, rooibos, chamomile, hibiscus, lemon verbena and locally picked rose hips. I scrape out all the hips and dry the skins.

Longer brewing times may also increase lead and other contaminants entering the water.

I just had tea with growers from china. For black tea you make many small pots for about an hour. Its loose leaf but you want it to go long and slow.

What a surprise that the USA was the only country not to sign the convention. Typical.

Could not stand the taste of the locally available rooibos tea
