Been watching you since April 2019 when you helped me go vegan. Your videos are super helpful. Just the best. Keep it up Derek! 🌱πŸ’ͺ🏻

  • @lesterlasa3367 says:

Keep doing what you are doing I personally don’t eat much protein but I am not trying to build muscle been vegan πŸ₯‘ going on ten years now

  • @suzkstein says:

Thanks for explaining! I always wonder why you push protein and now I get it.

  • @HoldOnStillProcessing says:

love your calm, non-adversarial attitude. Real life chill guy

  • @marystestkitchen says:

Nicely said! Id add that some of us just dont feel satiated without enough protein even when otherwise stufffed to the brim with carbs and fiber.

    • @Skweepa says:

It’s all relative. Check out what super muscly gorillas at the zoo eat. Not even Derek could eat that much fiber!

    • @eatplantsloveanimals says:

      1. No whole plant food is pure carbs. You’re still getting protein. 2. The most satiating food as tested is potatoes, something most people think of as a carb. 3. You could be feeling that way because of your beliefs. The stomach has sensors that signal satiation to your brain based on volume. More fiber == more volume.

    • @Nobody-Nowhere says:

Its more about the extra protein, protein powders. As those are completely unnecessary unless you are a pro bodybuilder on gear.

    • @varsharao86 says:

      @@SkweepaπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ you are hilarious.

    • @randomoneforstuff3696 says:

@@eatplantsloveanimals Long-term satiety (i.e. after the food has been digested) is determined by caloric content and macronutrient composition. If you eat tons of buttery or fat-heavy food (e.g. croissants, cinnamon rolls, french fries, etc.) to the point of volume satiety for every meal for a whole day, you might feel very full the next morning.

I love that you back up your opinions with science. With social media, everyone claims to be an expert and puts out so much misinformation in an attempt to make money. You have one of the best altruistic channels out there. Keep up the good work!πŸŽ‰ You are the King amongst Kings in Vegan Youtube-landiaπŸ’ͺ🏻

  • @AmroNaddy says:

Always appreciate Derek’s take. Also, the new sauce cookbook is awesome, just got it!

  • @XeniaAidonopoulou says:

These docs are not athletes…. Thank goodness for you and channels like you… A high protein mostly whole food plant based diet is what allowed me to build bone mass and also to dance and keep up with women less than half my age 3 hours a day x 5 times a week… I know that I couldnt be doing any of this with less protein… Your channel and other vegan athlete and bodybuilding channels lit the way for me… Yours specifically has been my favourite and I tell others about it as needed too… ❀ PS I of course love the docs too… They are totally amazing and have totally lit the way re health knowledge and illness avoidance… ❀

  • @jaminwaite3867 says:

There’s been many of us who were already wfpb but still overweight, and increasing protein seems to be the key for them. Especially as we’re aging!

  • @myhorse52 says:

What a lot of those doctors don’t take into consideration is small people with small appetites. I am a 63 year old female. I am not very big, 5’1” currently 112 lbs. I would like to get down to 107 but that would cut my calorie intake to about 1200 calories a day or less. I do moderate exercise and try to do a bit of strength training a couple days a week. I have kept track of protein and some days only hit about 25 grams of protein. I only eat once or twice a day. Here it is 3pm in the afternoon and just having my first meal. Some days I do better. When I watch your meals, I think, good lord how does he eat so much. Lol. I have started to incorporate seitan in my diet and that helps a lot. Protein smoothies makes it much easier, too. I have always felt you did the high protein meals for all the skeptics out there. It is very doable to get enough protein, but for small appetites and people that don’t need very many calories, it can be a challenge and your videos help so much for ideas. Thanks Derek!

  • @senang2day524 says:

Good thing you explained about the plantbased protein.. First thing that people ask when they hear that I am a vegan is always about the protein. So it is definetely a topic worth paying attention to. Good job!

  • @SherryVardabasso says:

I don’t usually comment. I thumbs up and share, but I felt like I needed to add my two cents this time. I’ve only been vegan 1 1/2 and not looking back! Your videos are my most favourite. You are a great teacher as well as recipe creator. I have learned so much!! Thank you. Probably the number one question I get asked by my meat eating friends is β€œhow do you get enough protein??”. Your videos addressing this helps me understand and to share. Even if I don’t need the amount of protein you do because I don’t burn as much , I appreciate knowing how and where to get it in a diverse and tasty way. As a fellow British Columbian, I really like when you show new products you have found. Can’t tell you, how many foods you have suggested are now in my cupboard and fridge ( latest.. Big Mountain soy free tofu… sooo good!!). Anyway, keep doing what you are doing. Thank you !

    • @Simnettnutrition says:

Thank you so much Sherry, I really appreciate your comment and support. I hope you have a great holidays!

  • @deniserikard147 says:

I am a vegan and i have lost over 50 pounds by eating more protein. I eat a lot of plant based high protein items. I also drink protein shakes. When i went vegan everyone told me not to because i would not get enough protein. Well i have proved everyone wrong! Please keep promoting high protein plant based meals. It has really helped me with my meal planning. Thanks 4 all u do 😊

  • @hermei8828 says:

I am not even vegan or vegetarian, but i mainly eat vegan to reduce my animal product intake. People always are suprised of how much protein i get in a day. I think it is really easy to hit my protein though, without doing crazy things. The main concern these people have is that this protein is not good enough, but I think as you never eat only a single food item, you should be fine. Thank you for sharing this.

  • @JerryTurner-h1b says:

Got my first muscle up today at 54 thanks to your old video! Another great video today. Your channel has been a huge help to me since I turned vegan 2 1/2 years ago. Thank you so much!

  • @TheAllanBrownlie says:

Im not vegan but always been a big fan of your attitude Derek! Keep up the good work!

  • @lindabrown6284 says:

As a post menopausal woman, it’s very important to get a fair amount of protein. I appreciate your recipes!!

  • @lindabrown6284 says:

    Wow, that scenery is gorgeous.

  • @erikfast9764 says:

I appreciate Derek’s pragmatic approach. Not everyone is going to be convinced to switch to veganism by the ethical arguments. People’s motivations are diverse, and if you can appeal to their desire for a more aesthetic body, that’s great! It’s ultimately better for the animals and the environment, regardless of the specific reasons for switching to a plant-based diet.
